Beebe, Einhouse, Petrie-Barcelona Elected to School Board

Preliminary results show make-up of new school board.

With all 41 precincts reporting, voters elected , and to the Board of Education Tuesday.

Beebe, 69, said she’s pleased with the results, because the winners were all those who focused their campaign on education.

“At the end of the day, that’s really what it’s all about,” she said.

Six candidates ran for three open seats, including incumbent Beebe. Board President Matthew Markling and member John Kamkutis decided not to seek re-election, citing family obligations.

Beebe, Einhouse and Petrie-Barcelona will join Ed Favre and Betsy Shaughnessy on the school board, and serve a four-year term.

Einhouse, 53, said he has worked with Favre and Shaugnhessy on the Fifty Year Committe in the past, and is confident in his ability to work with them, and Beebe and Petrie Barcelona, in the future.

“They’re all great people,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it.”

Petrie-Barcelona is also looking forward to geting her hands dirty.

"We've all worked hard in our own ways to get here," she said. "I believe I'll be a good part of that team that will see us through these tough next couple of years."

This January, Beebe will start her eighth term on the school board, having served on all standing committees.

Einhouse, who is the vice president of real estate services at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square, had a leadership role in the Fifty Year Committee in 2002 and served a six-year term on the Board of Zoning Appeals.

Petrie-Barcelona, 33, is a 1995 graduate of . She received her MS in urban studies and economic development from Cleveland State University. She has served as the development officer in the Department of Planning & Development, and is currently the treasurer for the Lakewood Alumni Foundation.

The board members have their work cut out for them.

Last month, Treasurer Rick Berdine that the district is likely to have a $10.5 million budget deficit by the year 2015, barring the passage of any levies.
