The preliminary hearing is set for May 2 for both. After a review of evidence, a determination will be made whether to pursue the case to a grand jury, Miday said.
The charges stem from a shooting in Lakewood last Thursday morning. Robert Doss shot Tracie Eck, a 39-year-old woman, once in the head at about 9:30 a.m. at an apartment at 13531 Detroit Avenue.
From that point, a vehicle registered to Doss was found abandoned in Parma and Capt. Ed Hassing of the tracked Doss to Fairview Park. Doss was taken into custody at a friend’s apartment at 11:44 a.m.
Eck was found by emergency rescue crews on the floor of the apartment off Detroit. She was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. She identified Doss to EMS workers during the drive to MetroHealth.
Hassing said Doss and the victim knew each other prior to the shooting, “so this wasn’t a random thing.”
Eck remains at MetroHealth, where she has been upgraded to good condition, said Susan Christopher, director of media and advertising communications for the hospital.
Barbara Doss lived in the same apartment building as the victim. She was also taken into custody on Thursday.
