Matt LaWell
Matt LaWell is still young, but old enough to be a veteran writer who has worked for newspapers and magazines in North Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia for most of the last decade. He has written about everything from college education and community development, to high school football and hot dog eating contests, to empty basketball arenas and kindergartners. Oh, and baseball. Always baseball.
He has been spat on by college students, punched in the stomach (an accident, but still worth mentioning) by an angry man in the middle of a crowd and run over by a bicycle — all in the aim of chasing down the story. At Patch, he will write a little bit of everything, with a focus on sports and figuring out life in 21st-century America. Matt is a graduate of Ohio University, the owner of LaWell Media and a marathon runner. He lives with his wife, Carolyn, in Lakewood, where he is currently at work on a book about minor league baseball.
