Woman Robbed at Gunpoint in Broad Daylight

Walking on a quiet residential street, woman robbed of her purse at gunpoint.

A woman was robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight on a quiet residential street as she walked to work on Wednesday afternoon.

The woman, who works on Detroit Avenue but parks her car on Ramona Avenue, told police that as she approached Marlowe Avenue, a man pulled out a gun and demanded her purse.

Still holding her car keys, she walked back to her car and drove to to make a report, according to police.

The suspect — described as a white man, between 25 and 30 years old, 5-feet, 7-inches tall, with a medium build — took only the woman’s purse, which contained an unreported amount of cash.

Police Chief Timothy Malley said that kind of robbery is uncommon.

“It’s actually very uncommon,” he said, adding that last year, the department had 35 about robberies total. Handguns were used in five of them.

“This is the first robbery we’ve had in this area specifically,” Malley said. “This isn’t a common occurrence.

“We’re working on a few (leads), but we don’t have any arrests yet.”
