The Eagles soared over the Wildcats, 55-27, at Byers Field.
It’s been five years since the Eagles have competed in the state tournament.
The St. Edward High School golf team is headed to the state tournament in Columbus this week. That’s after the squad finished fourth at last week’s rainy district tournament at the Pine Hills Golf Course. The squad is led by brothers Joey and Anton Krecic. Rounding out the team are sophomore Wil Bethune, freshman Danny Zahn and senior Adam Abele. The are coached by Bill Menz. Earlier this month, the squad finished first at the Sectional tournament. A story on the St. Edward High School website notes that the Eagles’ performance at the district tournament marks the first time a St. Ed’s golf team qualified to the state tournament since 2007. The Eagles finished fourth in the district and qualified along with Aurora, Walsh Jesuit and Medina.

The motivational speaker spent Monday at St. Edward High School, first talking to students and then their parents. Wieland lost both of his legs in Vietnam, just as he was preparing for a career playing professional baseball. His disability never handicapped him. Wieland, who been a motivational speaker for the past 40 years, has been named the most courageous man in America and Veteran of the year. He holds a world record for bench press; he is the only double-amputee to ever complete the Ironman Triathlon without the use of a wheelchair. And he walked across the United States — on his arms. Wieland brought his message of strength and …

Will Rouse, a senior at St. Edward High School, said he started the project in his garage.
One Lakewood boy’s quest to become an Eagle Scout badge means a new gazebo for residents at Celeste Park. Will Rouse, 17, a senior at St. Edward High School, is working to finish up his final scout project. He’s put in lots of hours. The gazebo, measuring about 9 feet in diameter, will hold about 10 people once its finished at the corner of West Clifton Avenue and Clifton Boulevard this summer. “It’s the last big step to become an Eagle Scout,” he said. “It’s a project in which you lead a group of people to complete a service project that will benefit a group of people. In this case, the people benefiting are the people of Lakewood.” Rouse has been a scout in Troop 287 since he was 11 years old. The Erie Cliff Drive resident said that a …

Will, do yourself a BIG favor and skip the business major. Learn to further your interest in building things, Not in supervising others who supervise others while they are actually building things. BTW I am a Northwestern MBA who wishes I knew how to build a gazebo. Good luck to you. I have seen it going up. I live nearby and look forward to its completion.   more ›
