The former US congressman had an office in Lakewood for 15 years. Now, he’ll be see all over the country on TV.
The former congressman who has had an office in Lakewood for 15 years now has packed up his boxes and moved out. Now, Dennis Kucinich is joining Fox News. The Plain Dealer reported that the 66-year-old former Cleveland mayor will debut on "The O'Reilly Factor" at 8 p.m. Thursday. Kucinich occupied the space at 14400 Detroit Avenue since 1997 when he began the first of his six terms in the 10th Congressional District. At the end of December, Kucinich finished his last term. Redistricting pitted Kucinich against long-time representative Marcy Kaptur, who beat him in the newly drawn North Coast district. As part of his new gig, Kucinich will also appear on a variety of other Fox programs as well, the Plain Dealer reported. "I'm really looking…

The US Congressman finished his last term, after redistricting — then Rep. Marci Kaptur — ousted him from the post. But the building on Detroit Avenue won’t be vacant for too long.
Bundled-up employees from an area moving company braved freezing winds on Wednesday to haul countless boxes and office furniture out of the space most-recently occupied by US Rep. Dennis Kucinich. The former congressman has occupied the space at 14400 Detroit Avenue since 1997 when he began the first of his six terms in the 10th Congressional District. At the end of December, Kucinich finished his last term. Redistricting pitted Kucinich against long-time representative Marci Kaptur, who beat him in the newly drawn North Coast district. He wasn't at the office on Wednesday afternoon. He was giving his final speech on the floor of 112th Congress. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve our nation together in our mutual pursuit of …

Cotton, offering high-end linens and tableware, is opening in the space occupied by US Rep. Dennis Kucinich for 20 years.
US Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s loss is David Stein’s gain. The owner of Plantation Home on Detroit Avenue is signing a lease to move into the building that most-recently housed the congressman, who’s set to leave his post at the end of the year. Stein’s new venture, Cotton, will offer high-end linens and tableware. After redesigning the space — only a little — Stein expects to open the new store in April. “We have really outgrown this space,” said Stein, who opened his home furnishings store Plantation Home nearly 11 years ago. “I need competition, so I am really going to give myself competition. If Crate and Barrel or the Pottery Barn opened across the street, I’d be very happy." He said there are no plans to renovate the property, noting …

It’s the time of year when political signs start to pepper front yards across the city.
It’s election season. Which means that it’s also the time of year when political signs start to pepper front yards across the city. Kevin Butler, the city’s law director, said that this is the time of year when he starts to get phone calls about the legality of political advertisements. “We just don’t touch them,” said Butler, citing First Amendment rights. “Political speech is purely protected.” One Lakewood resident emailed Lakewood Patch about a pro-Romney sign in her neighbor’s yard. She said she thought it might be too early for political signs. “Unless they’re on public property, we don’t enforce restrictions on political signs at all,” Butler said, adding that the enforcement of a size of a political sign is only an issue if the …

US Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who represents Lakewood, said lawmakers are moving backward by bringing up the resurgent debate on the Affordable Care Act.

Congressman representing Lakewood reacts to Supreme Court decision.
Following Thursday's Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act, Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who represents Lakewood, released a statement: “Today’s ruling demonstrates that health care is not the third rail in American politics. It demonstrates that reform is possible. It demonstrates that Medicare for All is inevitable. “The Affordable Care Act provided health care to those most vulnerable among us – those of the lowest income – by expanding Medicaid, a health insurance program for low-income Americans. It provided much-needed benefits. “In today’s ruling, the Supreme Court held that states have the power to reject that expansion and maintain the status quo. That means that in states in which the governor decides not to prioritize …

Poll workers said the turnout wasn't too high; but we captured some of the action anyway.
Poll workers in Lakewood said they've seen higher turnout before. That didn't stop Lakewood Patch from making the rounds to capture some of the action. To see more Election Day photos, visit the Lakewood Patch Twitter page to see our feed.
Kucinich does well in Cuyahoga County, but Kaptur takes the votes on the rest of the North Coast.
A strong showing in Cuyahoga County for U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich wasn't enough to beat U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur in the race for the newly configured 9th Congressional district on Tuesday. With nearly all of the precincts counted around the North Coast, the Toledo Democrat defeated challenger Kucinich by roughly 11,000 votes, according to unofficial election results. Kucinich conceded the contest at around midnight at Rubin's Deli in Cleveland. This Democratic primary for the new 9th Congressional district shaped up to be a battle among the two veteran Democrats and political newcomer, Graham Veysey. As expected, the votes at western edge of the district — Kaptur's base near Toledo — came in heavy for her. In Lucas County, she got 18,984 …
