Jibaro's Pit Stop Officially Open on Madison Avenue

The popular restaurant on wheels opens a brick-and-mortar establishment on Madison Avenue in the location most-recently occupied by Zappitelli’s on Madison.

Just as the new sign was going up, the highly anticipated Jibaro's Pit Stop opened its doors on Madison Avenue this week. The “soft opening” has been anything but slow, said co-owner Elvis Serrano. “We’ve had a great crowd,” Serrano said. “Everyone seems to like it. We had a couple of hiccups, but we seem to have the kinks worked out.” Customers — some of them neighbors — stopped by to introduce themselves on Wednesday. Many of the neighbors remember the other pizza shops that have tried their luck in the space at 14201 Madison Avenue during the past couple years. There have been three of ‘em: C-Town Pizza, Rosario’s and most-recently, Zappitelli’s on Madison.  One after the other, they’ve all gone closed. That doesn’t matter to Serrano. …

Jibaro Food Truck Finds ‘Pit Stop’ at New Pizza Shop

The popular restaurant on wheels opens a brick-and-mortar establishment on Madison Avenue in the location most-recently occupied by Zappitelli’s on Madison.

Fourth time’s a charm? There have been three pizza shops that have tried their luck at 14201 Madison Avenue in the past couple years: C-Town Pizza, Rosario’s and most-recently, Zappitelli’s on Madison.  One after the other, they’ve all gone closed. That doesn’t matter to Elvis Serrano. The owner of the successful Jibaro food truck says that his pizza shop will be different. For starters, the Jibaro Pit Stop and Pizza Shop will offer other items in addition to pizza — think Cuban sandwiches, plantains and rice and beans.  Also, Serrano said the space will serve as a brick-and-mortar base for the truck — complete with a full-sized kitchen.  That means that the business isn’t as dependent on the walk-in and delivery traffic as the other pizza…

Zappitelli’s Closes Its Doors on Madison Avenue

Power outage was the “straw that broke the camel’s back.”

It seems as if a three-day power outage was the “straw that broke the camel’s back” for Zappitelli’s on Madison. The pizza shop — voted the pizza in Lakewood by Lakewood Patch readers — announced Thursday that it was closing its doors. Adam Carroll, the pizza shop’s owner, told Lakewood Patch in August that the shop would close by the end of the year. "The power outage was the straw that broke that camel's back," he said on Thursday. "It's over." In an email newsletter, Zappitelli’s customers learned the fate of the pizza shop — which has recently had issues with the city regarding dine-in tables, as well as with neighbors who have complained about parking. “We’ve had an absolute wonderful year, met so many wonderful people and had a ton …

UPDATE: Why Did the City Close This Pizza Shop for Four Hours?

Building officials required Zappitelli’s on Madison to remove its dining room tables Friday morning. The business re-opened later in the day.

UPDATE: This post was updated at 5:50 p.m. to reflect that the pizza shop reopened its doors for business. Employees from Zappitelli’s on Madison arrived to work Friday morning and found a padlock and a notice from the city forcing the business to close until it resolved building code violations.  The pizza shop on Madison Avenue — that recently announced it was closing its doors by the end of the year — was required to remove the dining room tables.  Per city code, the business does not have public restrooms, therefore it cannot allow dining room seating. “We’re allowed to have tables, but not people dining in,” said Zappitelli's on Madison Avenue owner Adam Carroll.  Once the tables were taken out, the business reopened at around 4:40 p.…

I have ordered food from Jibarros Truck a few times and the food is much nicer than Italian fare. I for one look forward to walking down to the corner shop instead of sprinting after a truck for a sandwich...and how many people can say they were served by Elvis? Not the real Elvis but the nicer looking one one who makes nicer food.   more ›
