World of Beer Officially Opens on Detroit Avenue

New bar’s owners and city officials hosted a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday.

Hundreds of brands of beer has arrived and the doors are open at World of Beer on Detroit Avenue. The new, 3,800-square-foot bar marked its grand opening in the INA Building with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.  The highly anticipated bar will feature 500 different bottles of beer and offer 50 drafts that rotate every night. But this bar chain will only serve fancy beers.  “Our focus is definitely on the beer,” said Mark Pottschmidt, a partner in the enterprise, adding that dozens of employees have already undergone a rigorous two-week “beer school.” “Beer school definitely sets us apart,” said Darren Greene, a co-owner of World of Beer. “The educational component is definitely something that’s very important to us…

@ Linda Rogrs- has anyone ever told you you look like Jan from the show "the Office". The franchise World of Beer has been successful in other location. I wish them great success in Lakewood - but I hope they don't pull too much business from our local indepentent bars. Those guys have enough competition amongst themselves.   more ›

World of Beer Ready to Open on Detroit Avenue

With 50 beers on draft and another 500 varieties in bottles, the new, 3,800-square-foot bar slated for a “Facebook opening” on March 19.

The plywood has come down from the windows. The tables installed and polished. The huge cooler is set to the appropriate temperature. All that’s left for World of Beer is, well, beer. Hundreds of brands of beer should arrive in the next couple weeks, as the new, 3,800-square-foot bar is slated to open in the INA Building on March 19.  Mark Pottschmidt, a partner in the enterprise, said that the bar will feature 500 different bottles of beer, and 50 drafts that rotate every night. But this bar chain will only serve fancy beers.  “Our focus is definitely on the beer,” he said, adding that the approximately 40 employees will undergo a rigorous two-week “beer school.” “Beer school definitely sets us apart,” said Darren Greene, a co-owner of …

World of Beer to Open by St. Patrick’s Day

The bar is hiring positions this week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 14701 Detroit Avenue, suite 362.

For a business that hasn’t even opened yet, almost 1,100 Facebook "likes" isn’t too bad. World of Beer announced plans during the summer to move into a 3,600-square-foot space in the INA Building, across the street from Melt Bar and Grilled. It seems that word of the bar — specializing in high-end beer — is spreading around town. World of Beer is expected to open by St. Patrick’s Day, said co-owner Mark Pottschmidt. Although the windows are boarded up to keep the place a surprise, the build-out is well under way. (Check out the floor plan at right) Pottschmidt told Lakewood Patch earlier this year that the bar will feature 500 different bottles of beer, and 50 taps that rotate every night. Liquor won’t be served at World of Beer, but a few…

World of Beer Coming to Detroit Avenue

Craft beer chain opening its third Ohio location in the INA Building.

Lakewood folks enjoy decent beer. That's part of the reasoning by a group of entrepreneurs who are opening a new, craft beer emporium on Detroit Avenue. World of Beer has announced plans to move into a 3,600-square-foot space in the INA Building, across the street from Melt Bar and Grilled. But this bar chain will only serve fancy beers.  Mark Pottschmidt, a partner in the enterprise, said that the bar will feature 500 different bottles of beer, and 50 taps that rotate every night. Liquor won’t be served at World of Beer, but a few wines will be offered. “Our focus is definitely on the beer,” he said, adding that the staff undergoes a rigorous two-week “beer school.” “If someone comes in looking for a Bud Light, our staff can direct them …
