Police Chase Ends With Crash, Officer Injured

Police Chief Timothy Malley: A cruiser struck a Cleveland house and the suspect got away.

A high-speed police chase that started in Lakewood early Saturday morning ended in Cleveland with a police cruiser striking a house, an injured officer and no arrest. It all started at 4:27 a.m. when a car was reported stolen from a home in the 1100 block of Elbur Avenue, according to the police report. Officers spotted the car minutes later near the intersection of W. 117th Street and Madison Avenue, said Police Chief Timothy Malley. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspect refused to pull over. According to the report, the driver ran at least two red lights in Cleveland as speeds reached 65 mph. The officer pursued the car for about a mile and a half to Governor Avenue in Cleveland, where the suspect abandoned the vehicle …
