Should Lakewood Allow Tattoo Parlors?
At least a few residents would like to see a 1996 ordinance reversed to allow residents to get inked without leaving the city limits.
By way of an aggressive law, passed seven years ago, there are no tattoo shops in Lakewood. However, there’s been some recent movement to change that. Shawn Nutting, a Lakewood resident and tattoo artist in Elyria, spoke up at a recent city council meeting to encourage council members to take a second look at the law. “I think it’s an outdated thing,” he said. “I am surprised, especially with how many people have tattoos and how common it is.” The city has a 1996 ordinance on the books, making it next-to-impossible for a tattoo parlor to open in the city.
