Longtime assistant Jim Duffy takes over.
The head coach of the St. Edward High School soccer team has resigned his post. Tony Dore, who’s led the “perennial winner” soccer program for the past 13 years, is stepping down to dedicate more of his time to his apparel business, according to a news release from St. Edward. Longtime assistant coach Jim Duffy, who teaches religious studies at the Catholic school, is expected to take the helm of the program. Dore led the Eagles to a 15-1 regular season in 2012, taking the Eagles to the regional finals for the first time in school history. “Tony Dore has done an incredible job taking the St. Edward Soccer Program to another level,” said athletic director Paul Michalko in the news release. “We are very fortunate to have a teacher and coach …

The Eagles host a special ceremony in the school's Kahl Student Center to mark National Signing Day.
St. Edward High School, known as a powerhouse in the field and in the gym, hosted a special ceremony to mark the future careers of 16 of those student athletes. On National Signing Day — the annual occasion when students across the country officially announce their colleges of choice — it was a special day at St. Eds’ Kahl Student Center. James Kubacki, the president of St. Edward High School, said he’s proud of the student-athletes. He stayed during and after the ceremony to talk with students and their families. “We try to turn out well-rounded young men, who utilize their gifts on a number of levels," said Kubacki. "It’s always fun to see young men do well in athletics and move on to the college level and we wish them the best of luck…

Top-ranked Eagles beat in playoff shootout on Saturday night.
When you’re caught in a shootout and it’s decidedly not going your way, it’s probably not a bad idea to have the best gunslinger in Northeast Ohio on your side, particularly when you’re down a whole bunch late in a nervy fracas. Senior quarterback Mitch Trubisky further cemented his name in Mentor lore when he whipped a touchdown pass to Brandon Fritts with 33 seconds remaining and erased a 21-point, second-half deficit as the Cardinals won, 63-56, over St. Edward High School, the top-ranked team in the state. The loss ended the Eagles' season. The Cardinals will now face defending state champion St. Ignatius in the regional final for the right to go to the Division I Final Four. St. Ignatius blasted North Royalton, 56-0, in a game that …

According to the Plain Dealer, Ducic left St. Edward in 1981 to become head baseball coach at Cuyahoga Community College and has had coaching roles at Gilmour Academy and Benedictine. Officials at the high school learned this week that they had been authorized by IB Organization in Switzerland to become only the 30th Catholic high school in the US — and the first in Northeast Ohio.
Typically, it takes schools at least three years to become an International Baccalaureate World School. It took St. Edward High School just 20 months. Officials at the high school learned this week that they had been authorized by IB Organization in Switzerland to become only the 30th Catholic high school in the US — and the first in Northeast Ohio. Students in St. Edward’s class of 2014 will officially begin their IB coursework — the educational model that’s becoming the gold standard — next fall. During the past 20 months, 43 St. Edward teachers, traveling as far as Paris and Vancouver, were trained by the top IB educators in the world. “We’ve become members of a community of the most prestigious schools in the world,” said St. Ed’s …
