The Eagles took first at the Clash Tournament last weekend; but they've still got plenty of work to do this season.
Last weekend, St. Edward High School wrestlers traveled to Minnesota took on some of the best programs in the country for the Clash Tournament. The Eagles made it look easy. Heading into the tournament, ranked second in the country, the Eagles took first place, knocking off the sixth-ranked team in the country grab the title. That was after beating the fourth and fifth best teams in the nation. The Eagles started the tournament last Friday beating two teams — one from Georgia and another from Hawaii — by a combined score of 124-6. “They were pretty tough teams,” said coach Greg Urbas. Longtime Eagles coach set to be inducted into the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame.
Greg Urbas took over as St. Edward High School wrestling coach in 1989, following the untimely death of his predecessor, Howard Ferguson. More than 22 years and 15 state championships later, Urbas is one of three people in the state who will be inducted in the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame this season. It’s been quite a career for Urbas, who, before taking the head coach post, was Ferguson’s assistant coach for 11 years. “I am very thankful to have had the opportunities to be associated with St. Edward High School as a teacher and a coach,” he said. “I feel very blessed.” Urbas is expected to officially get the honor at the state tournament in March — where he hopes to have at least a few grapplers …

Five wrestlers place, named All-Americans at national tournament in North Dakota.
For grapplers at St. Edward High School, wrestling is a year-round sport. At the Asics Cadet & Junior National Freestyle Tournament in Fargo, ND, last week, the Eagles placed five wrestlers. They were also named all-Americans. St. Edward Coach Greg Urbas arrived late Sunday night from North Dakota, but was able to catch up with Lakewood Patch. He said the tournament was split into two divisions: cadet for 15 and 16 year olds, and juniors, who are either seniors, or recent graduates. At 125 pounds, Edgar Bright became national champion in the cadet division, finishing in first place. Juniors Domenic Abounader (171) took third place as a cadet; Mark Martin (160) took fourth place in the junior division; Markus Scheidel (135) took sixth place…
