Dunkin' Donuts, expected to open its doors on W. 117th Street next week, will also have an outdoor patio. Last week, the city's planning commission unanimously granted the fast-food chain a conditional use permit for an outdoor patio that will feature three tables and 12 seats. Construction of the city's second Dunkin' Donuts location recently wrapped up. The design plans got final approval from city’s architectural board of review meeting earlier this year. The national doughnut chain plans to open up at 1528 W. 117thStreet, near the intersection of Franklin Boulevard, next week. Natural foods grocery store donates truckloads of food to American Red Cross emergency shelter, St. Augustine Hunger Center and other residents in need.
When the power went out at Nature’s Bin, the clock started ticking on the shelf-life of the food in the store. As the hours became days, officials at the natural foods grocery store made a decision to donate food that may perish. In all, during the past few days, Nature’s Bin donated nearly 2,000 pounds of food —worth an estimated $10,000 — to several organizations including a Cleveland hunger center and the American Red Cross emergency shelter at Garfield Middle School. “At least it went to a good cause,” said Scott Duennes, the executive director of Nature’s Bin. He said that the frozen food “held its temperature” for about 24 hours after the store lost power at around 5 p.m. Monday. “Once it started to get soft we had to give it a new …

Power outage was the “straw that broke the camel’s back.”
It seems as if a three-day power outage was the “straw that broke the camel’s back” for Zappitelli’s on Madison. The pizza shop — voted the pizza in Lakewood by Lakewood Patch readers — announced Thursday that it was closing its doors. Adam Carroll, the pizza shop’s owner, told Lakewood Patch in August that the shop would close by the end of the year. "The power outage was the straw that broke that camel's back," he said on Thursday. "It's over." In an email newsletter, Zappitelli’s customers learned the fate of the pizza shop — which has recently had issues with the city regarding dine-in tables, as well as with neighbors who have complained about parking. “We’ve had an absolute wonderful year, met so many wonderful people and had a ton …

New coffee shop’s second location opens Wednesday; grand opening set for Thursday.
The new Gypsy Beans coffee shop was packed for its first day in business on Wednesday. It was good timing, because many of the patrons were without power. The coffee shop officially opens its doors— on the campus of Beck Center for the Arts — on Thursday. Gypsy Beans replaces the Beck Café, which closed its doors last month. It’s Gypsy Beans’ second location, with the original located in the Gordon Square Arts District at W. 65th Street and Detroit Avenue. “I was beginning the search to expand the Gypsy brand when the opportunity at Beck Center presented itself,” said owner Nicole Gillota in a news release. “I’m pleased to be located in Lakewood, especially within another arts community.” Billed as a traditionally styled European coffee …
