Lakewood Company Sues Union Members, Eyes Move to Elyria

Last week, a federal court judge issued a temporary restraining order that would keep Ferry Cap employees from refusing to work overtime — despite the union agreement.

Despite a 2011 union agreement between the Ferry Cap and Set Screw Company and its union employees, a federal judge has prohibited the workers from “refusing to work overtime” hours at the Lakewood facility. Both city officials and employees are also concerned about the plant consolidating operations with the Nelson Stud facility in Elyria. That’s a move that would take an estimated 120 jobs out of Lakewood. The Movement Factory Opens in the Lake Erie Screw Building

A grand opening event and ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned to take place at Alyssa Wilmot’s new spacious studio at 4 p.m. Feb. 9.

There’s some new life, and a little more “movement” in the building commonly referred to as the Lake Erie Screw Factory. Think dance, Zumba and Pilates. Alyssa Wilmot opened up The Movement Factory — a dance and workout studio — in a former office in the massive industrial building on Athens Avenue.  Surrounded by artist studios and other independent businesses in the Lake Erie Building, Wilmot said that The Movement Factory fit right in. The spacious studio used to be office space before Wilmot renovated. She stripped the drop ceiling and exposed the industrial brick walls. Lakewood Firm Finds Big Success With Little Devices

ProComSol, flying under the radar at the Lake Erie Screw Factory building, releases its new tablet to a global market.

High-tech devices, small enough to fit inside a small briefcase, are making a big difference in factories all over the world. And they’re manufactured in Lakewood. ProComSol, located in the Lake Erie Screw Building, has released new technology — that company officials hope will change the way businesses operate. The idea is to remotely monitor HART transmitters — usually found in factories — that measure pressure, flow and temperature.  “Our products are the interface between these products and the PC,” said Jeff Dobos, president of ProComSol. A few week’s ago, the firm introduced its COM-TABLET to the market. Each ProComSol unit — including USB modem, tablet and software — sells for about $1,100. The company’s customers include BP, Dow …

Taste of Lakewood: New Site, More Vendors

Event moves to Screw Factory after years at Clifton Club.

The ninth annual Taste of Lakewood will be bringing back to the neighborhood the irresistible combination of art and food for another round of good eats and visual treats on June 3. But this time around, the Taste of Lakewood will be in a new location. The event will be held at the Lake Erie Building, Templar Industrial Park, also known as the Screw Factory, after being held at the Clifton Club for its first eight years. “It’s a larger venue. Instead of limiting ourselves to 22 restaurants, we’re going to have 28. We will be able to sell more tickets.
