Beyond Christmas Ale: Try Hard Ciders, Belgium and Pumpkin Beers

Local craft beer aficionados share their holiday favorites to help you expand your beer palate. And you can get them close to home.

Rozi's Wine & Liquor House Inc. 14900 Detroit Ave.  Lakewood 216-221-1119 Rozi's Manager Bill Barak gave us the rundown between the two general classifications of Christmas-time beers, Christmas or spiced and winter warmers. “Winter warmers are scotch ales or strong ales. Basically they are heavier more malty. They warm your belly. They are thick and thus take longer to get through. “Then you have your Christmas beers which are spice beers. The actual classification is spice or vegetable beers is the broad style.” In his opinion Ohio is the leader of the spice beers as far as Christmas ales go. There really aren't other areas that produce it or produce it as well as we do, he said. Winter warmer craft beer selection: Breckenridge Christmas…

Last year, for the holidays, I brewed a batch of chocolate habenero pepper porter. It wasn't a hit with everyone, but for those who did like it, it made the holidays a little more special.   more ›

Chocolate Walk Event a ‘Sweet’ Tradition

The event is scheduled for Oct. 25, but act quickly. Last year’s event sold out in two weeks.

Don’t look now, the Lakewood Chocolate Walk is quickly becoming a sweet Lakewood tradition. Last year, the annual event sold out in two weeks, and organizers expect this year to be no different.  Sponsored by the Downtown Lakewood Business Alliance, the event is slated from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25. In a nutshell, participants will stroll through Lakewood, sampling “unique chocolate treats” as they stroll. Cats On Holiday will perform at Rozi’s Wine House — the final stop of the evening — with ice cream bars as the delectable finale. To purchase tickets, at $25 a pop, stop into Rozi’s. There are 225 available. They are expected to sell out. New this year, and limited to only 50 tickets, is the “Pre-Walk” VIP Reception at Deagan's Kitchen & Bar …

Downtown Lakewood, Rozi's Wine House and the new CVS Pharmacy all have got some new signage.

Just in case you haven't noticed, there's some activity on Detroit Avenue. To help you find your way, businesses and organizations have recently erected some new signs in Lakewood's main commercial district. Rozi's Wine House recently added a new sign, on the heels of last summer's extensive renovation project. Photo Gallery: Choosing the Best Bubbly

Corey Rossen, owner of Rozi's Wine House, gave Lakewood Patch some bubbly suggestions for New Year's Eve.

Correction: This version corrects the spelling of Rozi's Wine and Liquor House owner Corey Rossen. Prosecco, champagne and brut, oh my. With seemingly endless choices for that perfect bubbly to toast new year's well wishes, how can anyone decide which one they will like? Lakewood Patch decided to go to the wise old owl of alcohol in Lakewood, Rozi's Wine & Liquor House. Hey, they've been there 72 years, they must be doing something right. Snapshot: Outdoor Seating at Rozi's Wine House Opens on Detroit Avenue

Longtime establishment on Detroit Avenue wrapping its makeover.

Rozi’s Wine House unveiled its new outdoor patio during last weekend's Lakewood Arts Festival. The exterior work on the 100-year-old building is expected to wrap up by the end of the summer. The longtime establishment at 14900 Detroit Ave. is getting a new look. In addition to a new façade, crews are busy working to add a 326-square-foot outdoor “porch,” that will host events, wine-tastings and fundraisers — as well as good, old-fashioned relaxing.  Earlier this year, the establishment was approved for a $30,000 grant, through the city’s storefront renovation program. Also, the city’s public works department has agreed to move a large utility box and replace the traffic signal with a new, modern one at the intersection — both are upgrades …

Rozi's Wine House Getting a New Look

Work begins at the establishment on its new facade and porch area.

Rozi’s Wine House is getting a makeover. Actually, the longtime establishment at 14900 Detroit Ave. is getting completely new look. In addition to a new façade, crews are busy working to add a 326-square-foot outdoor “porch,” that will host events, wine-tastings and fundraisers — as well as good, old-fashioned relaxing.  The exterior work on the 100-year-old building is expected to wrap up by the end of the summer. “At first, the idea was to change the façade,” said manager Corey Rossen, grandson of the store’s founders. “We looked at some changes to the storefront. We asked ourselves ‘Do we want to change the paint color, or add some features?’"  Earlier this year, the establishment was approved for a $30,000 grant, through the city’s …
