The US Congressman finished his last term, after redistricting — then Rep. Marci Kaptur — ousted him from the post. But the building on Detroit Avenue won’t be vacant for too long.
Bundled-up employees from an area moving company braved freezing winds on Wednesday to haul countless boxes and office furniture out of the space most-recently occupied by US Rep. Dennis Kucinich. The former congressman has occupied the space at 14400 Detroit Avenue since 1997 when he began the first of his six terms in the 10th Congressional District. At the end of December, Kucinich finished his last term. Redistricting pitted Kucinich against long-time representative Marci Kaptur, who beat him in the newly drawn North Coast district. He wasn't at the office on Wednesday afternoon. He was giving his final speech on the floor of 112th Congress. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve our nation together in our mutual pursuit of …

The popular store on Detroit Avenue has outgrown its space.
Paisley Monkey, the popular children’s store on Detroit Avenue, has outgrown its space. Again. In 2011, the store moved from its Warren Road location, to the more visible—and larger—storefront at 14417 Detroit Avenue. Racin said she's not sure when the updates will be done, but she has plenty of plans once the spaces are combined. The play area for children will grow, she said, and she plans to add maternity lines. There are lots of items that she can't even bring onto the floor now. "We need more space, definitely," Racin said. David…

Cotton, offering high-end linens and tableware, is opening in the space occupied by US Rep. Dennis Kucinich for 20 years.
US Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s loss is David Stein’s gain. The owner of Plantation Home on Detroit Avenue is signing a lease to move into the building that most-recently housed the congressman, who’s set to leave his post at the end of the year. Stein’s new venture, Cotton, will offer high-end linens and tableware. After redesigning the space — only a little — Stein expects to open the new store in April. “We have really outgrown this space,” said Stein, who opened his home furnishings store Plantation Home nearly 11 years ago. “I need competition, so I am really going to give myself competition. If Crate and Barrel or the Pottery Barn opened across the street, I’d be very happy." He said there are no plans to renovate the property, noting …

We will really miss Dennis! But I'm sure he'll keep working for the public good, as one of the few honest men left in public life.   more ›
