Madison Avenue Traffic Signal Project Slated

The estimated $2.5 million project to upgrade the traffic signals on Madison Avenue — a project not unlike last summer’s Detroit Avenue project — could begin in 2014.

Green means go and red means stop.  City council began an effort to proceed with caution — and some questions — during its preliminary discussion about the proposed traffic signalization project on Madison Avenue. The estimated $2.5 million plan to upgrade the traffic signals on Madison Avenue — a project not unlike last summer’s undertaking on Detroit Avenue — is expected to begin in 2014. Based on a recent traffic study, five of the 20 traffic signals on Madison Avenue are “unwarranted,” meaning that they would be removed unless Lakewood paid 100 percent of the local share to keep them. “People will wonder why their streets will not get one, and their neighbors will,” said Shawn Juris, Ward 3 councilman and the chairman of the public …

I can't see how the signal at Belle & Madison is unwarranted. Belle seems to me a regularly used secondary, north-south thoroughfare in Lakewood, especially with access to the hospital from it and Charter One at that intersection.   more ›

Snapshot: Traffic Signals Going Dark on Detroit Avenue

Right now, the signals at the Hall, Mars and Manor Park intersections at Detroit Avenues are flashing. But, as part of the city’s traffic signalization project, all three will be permanently removed on Feb. 15.

Traffic signals at a few Detroit Avenue intersections are coming down. Right now, the signals at the Hall, Mars and Manor Park intersections at Detroit Avenues are flashing. But, as part of the city’s traffic signalization project, all three will be permanently removed on Feb. 15. Some residents have called city hall to complain. Mayor Michael Summers said a comprehensive study was completed nearly two years ago. And, earlier this year, city council OK’d a plan to replace — and synchronize — all the traffic signals on Detroit Avenue. “Safely moving traffic through a city is a bit of a science,” Summers said, referring to the traffic study. @alex. First came humans on foot, then horse-driven carriages, then automobiles, then trains...ect.ect.ect. (continuum). As far as events, look no further than 9-11 twin towers, I seem to recall they were built by engineers, as was 3 mile island, and the power plants in Japan. So who is to say they get this study right? YOU? I will stick with experience, thank you.   more ›
