Best Winter Sports Season Ever at Lakewood High School?

St. Edward isn’t the only high school with an athletic program in Lakewood.

Halfway through the season, four of the winter sports teams at Lakewood High School have lost only a combined six matches. They’ve won 38. This season could go down as one of the best-ever starts for the school’s winter sports programs. The girls basketball team is 10-1, and top of the conference; the boys squad is 9-2, and tied at the top of the conference; the hockey team is 12-1, the leader in its division; and the girls swim team is 7-1 (and the boys have only lost twice). Rangers Swim Team Looking to Make a Splash

Team returns two swimmers who qualified for the district tournament last season.

Last year, the Lakewood High School swim team advanced four individual swimmers and a diver along with a girls relay out of the Division I Lakewood sectional meet the district meet. The Rangers’ sophomore Sarah Neff and junior Maddie Mahoney who reached districts last season, return this year. Neff was 27th in both the 200 free and 500 free, getting a 2:02.32 in the 200 and a 5:29.35 in the 500, with both clocking better than her sectional times a week earlier.

Mahoney took 20th in the 100 fly with a 1:03.27 and 34th of 50 in the 50 free with a 26.00. Once again, both times were better than those posted by Mahoney in the sectional. Lakewood High School swim coach Jim Stacy returns for his fourth season on the pool deck at Lakewood with …
