Joanne Williams, Longtime City Hall Employee, Dies at 68

The funeral service is slated to take place at Faith Lutheran Church at 16511 Hilliard Road at 11 a.m. Friday.

Joanne Williams, who recently retired from Lakewood City Hall after nearly 19 years of service, died on April 6. She was 68 years old. Williams, a longtime Lakewood resident, was remembered by her friends and colleagues as warm, friendly and hard-working. “I had the opportunity to work with her for the past seven years since I’ve been here,” said Jenn Pae, the city’s finance director. “She was very dedicated and very hardworking person who cared deeply about her job.” “She will be greatly missed,” Pae added. “My thoughts go out to her family and friends." Lakewood resident Frank Gavlak died April 5. He was 79. Gavlak was the beloved husband of Jacqueline (nee Michals); loving brother of Pauline, John, Joseph (deceased), Helen Fox (deceased), Mary Plante and Julius "Yuko" Gavlak and dear uncle and great uncle. He was fondly remembered by friends and family online. Private family services are planned. Anne Eiben, of Lakewood, died Feb. 23, holding the hand of her husband of 31 years. She was 91. Eiben is survived by husband Dr. Robert M. Eiben. Lakewood resident Gary Moser died Feb. 6.  He was 72.  The beloved husband of M. Sheila; loving father of Kellee (Robert Mittleman), Kent "Duff" (Mary Moser-Sheehan), Mona Skal (Jim), Michelle Takacs (Mark), Joe DiEgidio (deceased), Lal DiEgidio and James "Jay" DiEgidio (Terri). Fr. Nelson Callahan Dies at 85

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Ignatius High School Scholarship Fund or The University of Notre Dame, American Church History Archives.

In 60 years of priesthood, Rev. Nelson Callahan was a pastor, associate, college professor, diocesan archivist, author and most recently pastor of St. Raphael Parish in Bay Village for 28 years.  The Lakewood resident died Jan. 15, at 85 years old. Callahan was the beloved son of the late Nelson J. and Mary (nee Mulholland) Callahan; loving brother of Dr. Kenneth (Joan) Callahan (both deceased) and Miriam (Gerald) Porter; dear uncle of The Hon. Kenneth Jr., Kevin, Christopher, Katherine and Collin Callahan and Miriam "Mimi", Dr. Mary Christine and Gerald Porter and great uncle of 11. Cory McAfee Eardly, Lakewood Resident, Dies at 26

Lakewood man loved skateboarding and snowboarding; leaves behind many friends and relatives.

  Cory Robert Jesus McAfee Eardly, a Lakewood resident died Jan. 11. He died just a few weeks shy of his 27th birthday. Saluting a Fallen Firefighter in Lakewood

John Kilbane, the former assistant fire chief, was honored as his funeral procession passed by the Lakewood Fire Station on Saturday.

In Lakewood, paying tribute to fallen firefighters is a tradition. Firefighters recognized former Lakewood assistant fire chief John Kilbane as his funeral procession passed the fire station on Saturday. He died on Jan. 9 at 82 years old.

John L. Yuhas Sr, Member of Lakewood Athletic Hall of Fame, Dies at 84

He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1947, where he was a three sport letterman for football, basketball and track.

  John L. Yuhas Sr. of Avon Lake — formerly of Bay Village and Lakewood — died Jan. 7. He was 84. Yuhas was born on August 13, 1928 in Lakewood and had lived in Bay Village for 47 years before moving to Avon Lake 7 years ago. In 1947, he graduated from Lakewood High School, where he was a three sport letterman for football, basketball, and track. In 1950 Yuhas joined the Army and in 1953 became a reservist serving until 1957. He  was a graduate from Ohio University and received his B.S. in education. He was an elementary physical education teacher for the Berea City School District for more than 30 years. Yuhas was a member of the Lakewood Athletic Hall of Fame and Holy Spirit Parish. He was his grandchildren's biggest cheerleader. He was …
