The annual event is slated to take place on Dec. 1.
Sometimes getting in the holiday spirit includes hanging holiday lights. For some families, it’s watching “A Christmas Story.” Some folks just want to get through Thanksgiving first. But for many Lakewood residents the holiday doesn’t officially begin until the annual Light Up Lakewood event, slated for Dec. 1. Sponsored by LakewoodAlive, the event stretches from Marlowe to Arthur avenues — from Lakewood Hospital to Lakewood Public Library — from 4 to 8 p.m. The sixth-annual event — turning a half-mile stretch of Detroit Avenue into a winter wonderland — features the region’s only winter parade, a ceremonial lighting of holiday lights at Lakewood Hospital, an appearance by Santa Claus and entertainment. The parade will begin at 5 p.m., …

Berry's connection to Lakewood Hospital brings her back home for child's water birth.
Motherhood knows no obstacle. Nothing stands in the way of doing what you feel is best for your child, even if it means enduring months of 5½-hour drives because you want your baby to receive the best care possible. When native Clevelander Tajuana Berry discovered she was pregnant with her second child just three months after her family moved to Gaithersburg, Md., last June, she knew her baby would find its way into the world at the Cleveland Clinic’s Lakewood Hospital. Berry’s first child, McKenna, was born there in September 2010, and the hospital and its staff left such a profound impression on her that she couldn’t imagine her new baby being born anywhere else. She and her husband, Wayne, came all the way from Maryland for her first …

Hospital is the host of a health fair, lecture and diabetes screening event on Friday.
Lakewood Hospital was the host of a health fair, lecture and diabetes alert screening event on Friday afternoon. Vistors to the hospital got the (free) opportunity to find out if they were one of the 7 million Americans with undiagnosed diabetes. But the event was anything but a lottery for the unlucky. Hosted by the hospital's Diabetes and Endocrine Center were on hand to review results and answer questions. A lecture was also presented by two of the leading heart experts in the U.S. and authors of Heart 411, doctors Steven Nissen and Marc Gillinov.
