Diaper Drive Donations Rolling In, More Help Needed

The Lakewood Community Services Center has provided diapers to families with the help of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, but now LCSC needs your help.

When we asked Lakewood Patch readers to pitch in, and donate diapers to the Lakewood Community Services Center, they answered the call. LCSC officials said residents immediately began dropping off diapers to our community's most needy residents. Large boxes full of diapers in the LCSC warehouse on Madison Avenue tell the story. The Lakewood Community Services Center has provided diapers to families with the help of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, but with a lack of funding, the church is discontinuing the diaper assistance program. Diapers Needed For Your Lakewood Neighbors

Lakewood Patch hosting a Diaper Drive with Lakewood Community Services Center to get diapers for our city's neediest residents.

Lakewood Community Services Center will be hosting its second annual fundraiser at the community garden in Madison Park this Friday.

Closing Out Summer With Storytelling by Foster Brown

On Sept. 10, the Madison Avenue branch of the Lakewood Public Library is hosting the Learning Garden Harvest Performance.

Folks strolling through Madison Park during the Lakewood Community Festival on Sept. 10 will find yet another way to learn something about the world around them. At 1 p.m., Cleveland Metroparks’ Foster Brown will be singing children’s folk songs about gardening and sustainability to culminate Madison Branch Library’s summer story-telling series at the Learning Garden in Madison Park. After singing and dancing, the youngsters will pick all harvestable vegetables to be donated to the Lakewood Community Service Center to go to hungry Lakewood residents. “This event is going to teach them about taking care of the earth, to be self-sustainable and give back to your community,” said Julie Strunk, supervisor in children’s and youth services at …

Barrels of Art in a Lakewood Garden

Rain barrels painted by Lakewood High School students have been installed in Lakewood Community Services Center's community garden.

From a whimsical underwater design to a hard-edged urban spray paint motif, the newly installed rain barrels at Lakewood Community Service Center’s community garden are veritable public art. Painted by 10 art students at Lakewood High School, the five colorful 55-gallon barrels are the latest addition to the community garden located at Madison Park, a public-nonprofit partnership that is in its second year. The barrels are impressive works of art that not only look good but will make it easier to water the 10 garden plots, said Trish Rooney, executive director of Lakewood Community Service Center (LCSC), a food distribution center in Lakewood serves more than 700 households a month from Lakewood, Rocky River and Westlake. “Aren’t they …
