Nordonia Tops Lakewood In NOC Swim Meet

Both the boys and girls teams lose.

The Lakewood High School girls swim team had a chance to share the Northeast Ohio Conference (NOC) Lake Division title with Nordonia, but fell short on the road Friday night at the Macedonia Recreation Center. The Rangers, who needed to defeat the Knights in a dual meet to get a share of the Lake Division title, dropped a 100-83 decision to the Knights. Much of the point differential that provided the Knights the win came from  diving. Lakewood, which did not have any female divers, was unable to keep the Knights from the earning the event's 13 points. "We were right there, but we came up a bit short," said Lakewood coach Jim Stacy. "There were a few close races that went the other way. Much of the season we have won those races, but …

Lakewood Meets Lakewood St. Edward in the Pool

Ranger girls top St. Joseph, 104-81; boys lose to St. Edward, 129-57.

Lakewood High School's annual swim meet with St. Joseph Academy and St. Edward High School on Wednesday found the Rangers earning a split. The Lakewood girls topped the Jaguars, 104-81 and the Eagles moved past the Lakewood boys, 129-57 at Lakewood High. "The girls really stepped up," said Lakewood head coach Jim Stacy. "I'm really proud of them. We were behind by three points after the 100 fly but we got good swims and pulled out the win despite some injuries. "Both the girls and boys have come together as one unit. That's something they can take long after they leave school. While St. Edward beat the boys, they really swam well." The win over the Jaguars came with the Rangers' two double-win swimmers offsetting one for St. Joseph to win …

Rangers' Swim Teams Getting Feet Wet

Boys and girls teams make up for lack of depth with hard work, toughness.

The Lakewood High School swim teams might be treading water on the way back to the level the program has seen in recent seasons, sending such swimmers as Neil and Maura Anderson along with Kelsey and Courtney Moran on to swim with great success on the collegiate level. The Rangers, whose girls finished second and boys who finished third in the Northeast Ohio Conference Lake Division last season, are short on experience and depth this time around. "We lost a strong senior class," said Ranger coach Jim Stacy. "We do have a nice freshman class but it will take a lot of work to get where we want to go and that usually takes up to two years," added Stacy, whose son Tom is the head coach at Strongsville, another NOC member. Stacy, a member of …
