World of Beer Officially Opens on Detroit Avenue

New bar’s owners and city officials hosted a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday.

Hundreds of brands of beer has arrived and the doors are open at World of Beer on Detroit Avenue. The new, 3,800-square-foot bar marked its grand opening in the INA Building with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.  The highly anticipated bar will feature 500 different bottles of beer and offer 50 drafts that rotate every night. But this bar chain will only serve fancy beers.  “Our focus is definitely on the beer,” said Mark Pottschmidt, a partner in the enterprise, adding that dozens of employees have already undergone a rigorous two-week “beer school.” “Beer school definitely sets us apart,” said Darren Greene, a co-owner of World of Beer. “The educational component is definitely something that’s very important to us…

@ Linda Rogrs- has anyone ever told you you look like Jan from the show "the Office". The franchise World of Beer has been successful in other location. The Kowit & Passov Real Estate group closed the deal this week on the acquisition of Lakewood Center North at 14600 Detroit Avenue for just under $3.4 million.

United Transportation Union, an AFL-CIO labor union affiliate representing railroad workers, was headquartered in the building until it moved to North Olmsted a …

Well yah, it's creative thinking...but what are you going to do with all the air conditioning units and the transmission antennae up there. There's just no room for any of that stuff. And Ian, about the hotel patio...not at Lakewood Center North. The restaurant has all the best space tied up for that.   more ›

Ceiling Caves in on LakewoodAlive

No one injured, but the sidewalk work above the basement office came crashing down for a "scary" Thursday morning.

Thursday morning was just like any other day at the LakewoodAlive office in the INA Building. Then, the ceiling caved in.  While crews were busy fixing up the sidewalk above, workers and volunteers heard the work get closer. Then, large pieces of concrete came crashing to the floor, and sunshine was streaming into the northwest corner of the otherwise dark basement office. No one was injured.  Only a small portion of the office is underneath the sidewalk. Ian Andrews, the executive director, said that with dust and debris heavy in the office, he told staff and volunteers to take the day off. “It was a little scary,” he said. By Friday, there was new concrete poured and the staff at LakewoodAlive was back to work.  “It was a crazy day,” …
