Tech Firm Continues Its Growth in Lakewood

Onix Networking, with its partnership with Internet-giant Google, adding jobs and filling up the space of its new home in the former Bonne Bell headquarters.

Onix Networking — a global information technology firm— has a new feather in its cap. The company, following the move of its headquarters to Lakewood last May, announced this week that it’s now a Premier Enterprise and Premier SMB Reseller of the Google Apps suite. What’s that mean? For starters, it means more jobs in Lakewood. Onix, a long-standing partner with Google, is one of only a handful of companies in the world authorized as a Google Premier Enterprise company. In 2002, it was also the first. “It’s a big deal,” said Karen Masuga, the company’s spokeswoman, adding that Onix employees must undergo special certification from the Internet giant. Of the 38 positions at Onix — there have been a handful of new hires, with more on the way…

Information Technology Firm Moving its Headquarters to Lakewood

Onix Networking bringing 35 jobs to Lakewood; to occupy former Bonne Bell headquarters on Detroit Avenue.

Onix Networking — a global information technology firm — is moving its headquarters from Westlake to Lakewood. And its bringing 35 employees along with it. The company, a long-standing partner with Google, is moving into the Georgetown Row half of the former Bonne Bell headquarters at the corner Detroit and Graber avenues. Founded in 1992, Onix provides services that include cloud computing, geospatial information systems, Enterprise search, storage solutions and secure wireless solutions. The company's customers include Internet-giant Google and various levels of government. The firm moved into its new location last week and is setting up shop this week. Tim Needles, president and CEO of Onix Networking, pointed out his roots in Lakewood…

Teacher of the Week: Getting Students Ready for Technology of the 21st Century

Alex Cammock, an eighth-grade social studies teacher, is one of a handful in the district to officially incorporate Web-based learning into the classroom.

Alex Cammock, an eighth grade social studies teacher from Harding Middle School, is taking his class to the next level.  This past June, Lakewood High School and Harding won a combined $500,000 in Ohio eTech grants that enable schools to put high tech electronics, like iPod Touches, Mac Books and netbooks, into the hands of teachers and students.  These digital tools not only help students with learning and higher thinking skills, they also allow educators to take their curriculums to new heights, Lakewood city schools instructional coach, Amy Miller said.  After receiving weeks of professional development trainiing, Cammock got the green light from administrators earlier this year to infuse these digital tools into his everyday curriculum…
