Officials from the Bob Evans presented preliminary plans for the restaurant chain’s proposed location at the corner of Detroit Avenue and Park Haven Row.

A new, 4,200-square-foot Bob Evans restaurant could be coming to Detroit Avenue. Officials from the restaurant presented some preliminary plans to the city’s architectural board of review on Thursday.  Situated across Park Haven Row from the new GetGo gas station, the restaurant would have one vehicle entrance on that street and another on Detroit Avenue, according to the architect's drawings.  As part of Bob Evans’ new design “concept,” it wouldn’t look the traditional restaurant. New GetGo Opens in Lakewood

It’s not yet clear what’s going to become of the vacant gas station across the street at Detroit and Manor Park avenues.

The new GetGo gas station has opened its doors — and its 16 fuel pumps — at the corner of Detroit Avenue and Bunts Road.  The 5,500-square-foot gas station was buzzing with new customers this week. The GetGo station — unlike the Pennsylvania-based company’s typical gas station — will offer a few grocery items, prepared foods, a patio and a Wi-Fi café. The business will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. The site features bio-retention landscaping, helping to alleviate the city’s storm water management issues, a move lauded by city officials. The project didn’t come without criticism from neighbors. LOOK: Buildings to Make Way for New Development on Detroit Avenue

Former grocery store torn down to make way for a new GetGo gas station; site of former Ganley dealership and apartment demolished for a new Discount Drug Mart.

Dust from a few demolished buildings blew down Detroit Avenue on Thursday. All that remained of the three structures, all within a few blocks of each other, were piles of rubble. The former grocery store at Bunts Road and Detroit Avenue was torn down to make way for a new GetGo gas station. The former Ganley dealership at Detroit and Grace avenues — along with the 11-unit apartment building just south of it — was just a pile of bricks and twisted metal by the end of Thursday afternoon. Those buildings are making way for a new Discount Drug Mart.  A work crew at the site told Lakewood Patch that the entire demolition/removal process could take as long as 30 days, before new construction can begin.
