Officials from the Bob Evans presented preliminary plans for the restaurant chain’s proposed location at the corner of Detroit Avenue and Park Haven Row.
A new, 4,200-square-foot Bob Evans restaurant could be coming to Detroit Avenue. Officials from the restaurant presented some preliminary plans to the city’s architectural board of review on Thursday. Situated across Park Haven Row from the new GetGo gas station, the restaurant would have one vehicle entrance on that street and another on Detroit Avenue, according to the architect's drawings. As part of Bob Evans’ new design “concept,” it wouldn’t look the traditional restaurant. It would be built up to the sidewalk with around 75 parking spaces in the rear. However, there are still a few hurdles before construction gets started. City officials aren’t quite comfortable with some of the aspects of the traditional Bob Evans design. “I am …

It’s not yet clear what’s going to become of the vacant gas station across the street at Detroit and Manor Park avenues.
The new GetGo gas station has opened its doors — and its 16 fuel pumps — at the corner of Detroit Avenue and Bunts Road. The 5,500-square-foot gas station was buzzing with new customers this week. The GetGo station — unlike the Pennsylvania-based company’s typical gas station — will offer a few grocery items, prepared foods, a patio and a Wi-Fi café. The business will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. The site features bio-retention landscaping, helping to alleviate the city’s storm water management issues, a move lauded by city officials. The project didn’t come without criticism from neighbors. Giant Eagle sold its property across the street at 14013 Detroit Avenue to Urban Active in 2007. However, plans at the site to…

I just do not get this, "The site features bio-retention landscaping, helping to alleviate the city’s storm water management issues, a move lauded by city officials." Why do they applaud, when they should DEMAND this??? We are facing millions of dollars to appease the EPA for our lack of... But yet they ban certain breeds of dogs and their owners. They have no idea of real SAVINGS to Lakewood …   more ›
The plans for the property at the busy intersection call for a 5,600-square-foot brick building, with 16 pumps.
Don’t look now, but the construction of the new GetGo gas station on Detroit Avenue and Bunts Road is almost finished. The plans for the gas station at the busy intersection call for a 5,600-square-foot brick building, with eight fueling stations (16 pumps). The GetGo station — unlike the Pennsylvania-based company’s typical gas station — will offer a few grocery items, prepared foods, a patio and a Wi-Fi café. The site will also feature bio-retention landscaping, helping to alleviate the city’s storm water management issues, a move lauded by city officials. The project didn’t come without criticism from neighbors. Giant Eagle sold its property across the street at 14013 Detroit Avenue to Urban Active in 2007. However, plans at the site to…

Former grocery store torn down to make way for a new GetGo gas station; site of former Ganley dealership and apartment demolished for a new Discount Drug Mart.
Dust from a few demolished buildings blew down Detroit Avenue on Thursday. All that remained of the three structures, all within a few blocks of each other, were piles of rubble. The former grocery store at Bunts Road and Detroit Avenue was torn down to make way for a new GetGo gas station. The former Ganley dealership at Detroit and Grace avenues — along with the 11-unit apartment building just south of it — was just a pile of bricks and twisted metal by the end of Thursday afternoon. Those buildings are making way for a new Discount Drug Mart. A work crew at the site told Lakewood Patch that the entire demolition/removal process could take as long as 30 days, before new construction can begin.

Same here on Grace. I can see my son walking into Garfield MS from my porch now. It's amazing how much has been demolished in just 7 days. It looks like an earthquake zone at the end of Grace and Cohassett. I'll sure be glad when it comes to an end, especially after demolition of Ganley office/house and garages across the street which took 3 weeks with electrical and AT&T cable issues. A reprieve…   more ›

There was some construction going on there a couple of weeks ago. There was some sort of a pipeline and box (maybe a gas meter?) in the middle of the lot which they cleared and leveled. It would be nice to know how this project is progressing. I'll be there on opening day for breakfast.   more ›
