Bob Evans Restaurant Eyeing Detroit Avenue Property?

Officials from the national restaurant chain are looking at the vacant property next to the new GetGo gas station.

Rumors are swirling around town about the future of the vacant “outlot” property next to the new GetGo gas station. On Wednesday, the Detroit Avenue Chow Line posted on its Facebook page that the national chain Bob Evens was considering the property for a new restaurant. Cleveland.com followed suit. City officials confirmed that representatives from Bob Evans have contacted city hall, but added that no deal has been reached with Giant Eagle, the owner of the property. “We know that they are interested in the site,” said Dru Siley, the city’s director of planning and development. “And we expect to find out in the next month or so who is likely to pursue that property.” The .9-acre property next to the new GetGo gas station on Detroit Avenue…

What Should Go Here? Former GetGo Gas Station

The new 16-pump station opened earlier this month at the corner of Bunts Road and Detroit Avenue. That’s left a vacant gas station at Manor Park Avenue.

The new GetGo gas station at the corner of Bunts Road and Detroit Avenue has left a void across the street. The former gas station has been vacant for a couple weeks.  Located at the corner of Manor Park and Detroit avenues, the future of the property isn’t certain. The land and building at 14206 Detroit Avenue are valued at $277,000, according to the Cuyahoga County Auditor’s Office. According to the property records, Ralph Miller bought the property from the Sun Oil Co. for $114,500 in 1995. He’s owned it since.  We thought we’d ask what you’d like to see happen to the property. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

History will prove Jesse's prediction to be correct unless the City of Lakewood, or RTA acquires the property.   more ›

GetGo is for Lovers

New gas station at the corner of Bunts Road and Detroit Avenue on Valentine's Day.

The GetGo gas station at Bunts Road and Detroit Avenue is expected to open on Valentine's Day. The plans for the gas station at the busy intersection call for a 5,600-square-foot brick building, with eight fueling stations (16 pumps). The GetGo station — unlike the Pennsylvania-based company’s typical gas station — will offer a few grocery items, prepared foods, a patio and a Wi-Fi café. The site will also feature bio-retention landscaping, helping to alleviate the city’s storm water management issues, a move lauded by city officials. The project didn’t come without criticism from neighbors. Giant Eagle sold its property across the street at 14013 Detroit Avenue to Urban Active in 2007. However, plans at the site to build a workout …

Opening one month behind schedule? I thought GetGo was slated to open January 15th. Guess the cold weather didn't help. Awaiting with anticipation so I don't have to wait at the increasingly jammed packed GetGo across the street or on 117th Street.   more ›

WATCH: Demolition of the Ganley Building Under Way

It’s not the only demolition project in the city right now, as crews began tearing down the former grocery store at Bunts Road and Detroit Avenue on Monday.

Demolition of Abandoned Grocery Store to Begin

The former Giant Eagle store at the corner of Bunts Road and Detroit Avenue will be torn down to make way for a new GetGo gas station.

The demolition permits have been submitted and approved. The bulldozers are standing by.  The demolition of the former Giant Eagle grocery store at the corner of Bunts Road and Detroit Avenue is set to begin. The abandoned structure — a grocery store that’s gone by a few names in its history — is gutted and cleared out. Demolition is expected to begin next week. Earlier this year, the plans were approved for a new GetGo, across the street from the grocery store chain's current location. Giant Eagle sold its property across the street at 14013 Detroit Avenue to Urban Active in 2007. However, plans at the site to build a workout facility never came to fruition. The building has been vacant since 2007, when Giant Eagle finished its move …

I absolutely despise Giant Eagle. I have stopped shopping there completely. I won't even buy their gas! I don't care how cheap it is. I prefer supporting the small businesses. It would be nice if others would do the same. Send GE a message. I buy my meat at TJ Butcher's Block now. I have always shopped at Nature's Bin and Costco. Sometime's Trader Joe's and Heinens. And, I shop at Moon's for pop …   more ›

New GetGo’s Sign May Have to Wait

City’s architectural board of review asks the company to modify its plans.

Clarification: The proposal for GetGo's signs were deferred until the next architectural board of review meeting. A new GetGo gas station is coming to the corner of Detroit Avenue and Bunts Road, however the signs that the company proposed are not. A company representing the gas station — owned by Pennsylvania-based Giant Eagle — presented plans for three new signs at the city’s architectural board of review Thursday night.  Board members were less than enthusiastic, taking particular issue with the proposed large digital sign facing Detroit Avenue. “I don’t like this at all,” said board member Michael Fleenor. “Perhaps a smaller sign would be OK. The monument sign is enormous.” George Dragon, of Cicogna Electric and Sign Co., pointed out …

Too many signs is a bad thing, but I would like to know gas prices as I'm driving. If the sign is too small or unnoticeable there could be accidents caused by people trying to read or find the gas prices. The Speedway at the corner of Franklin and Warren has a terribly placed sign. When you are coming from the south on Warren you can't read the price for unleaded gas because of a utility pole …   more ›

New GetGo Gas Station Plans Coming This Week

Updated proposal shows more green space.

The city’s board of architectural review is set to discuss Giant Eagle’s plan to plant a GetGo gas station at the southwest corner of Bunts Road and Detroit Avenue. Officials from the Pittsburgh-based grocer are expected to present drawings to the board on Thursday. At the encouragement of the city, the new drawings show a lot more green space. This won’t be the first time the issue has come before the board. Last month, developers presented initial plans at a special work session meeting at Lakewood City Hall. And a few weeks later, a crowd of nearly 50 people attended a forum to discuss the issue. Some in attendance opposed the project, while some neighbors showed support for the development.  Earlier this year, Giant Eagle informed the …
