Chad Zumock crashes into a tree on Lake Avenue on Friday, appears in Lakewood Municipal Court later in the morning.
Cleveland radio personality and comedian Chad Zumock was arrested and charged with drunken driving in Lakewood early Friday morning, WEWS reports. Zumock, a Lakewood resident, was driving east on Lake Avenue when his Chevy Cruze went into the westbound lane before striking a tree in the 13980 block of Lake Avenue, according to the Lakewood police report. The 37-year-old co-host of the Alan Cox Show on WMMS, who lives just a couple blocks away from the incident, was not injured in the crash and refused to take a breathalyzer test, according to WEWS. According to the police report, he was traveling 20 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. Zumock was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, failure to control and a seatbelt violation. …

National study has surprising statistic.
A new national survey on driving habits shows one in 10 teens has driven drunk on New Year's Eve. But the study also shows a way for other teens to protect themselves — and their friends behind the wheel: Just ask them not to. About 94 percent of teens surveyed said they would stop drinking and driving if a passenger in the car asked them not to, according to the study by Liberty Mutual Insurance and SADD(Students Against Destructive Decisions). The Ohio State Highway Patrol is not taking the holiday weekend off.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is warning drivers: If you choose to drive impaired, you will be arrested. Troopers have stepped up their focus on impaired driving enforcement in 2011, leading to 1,383 more drunken or impaired driving arrests this year than in 2010. As a result, accidents have gone down. “We are seeing positive results from the hard work of our troopers on the road everyday removing impaired and dangerous drivers from the roadways,” Colonel John Born, Patrol superintendent, said in a news release. “As the Patrol’s OVI arrests increase, we are seeing a direct correlation in the decrease of overall fatalities.” Impaired drivers were responsible for 40 percent of the fatal crashes in 2010. Ohio Highway Patrol releases new video to raise awareness in preparation for holiday. Lakewood police paying “special attention” to drunken driving.
Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest times of the year for bars in Lakewood. Police are hoping that the people drinking in those bars don’t decide to drive home. Lakewood Police Chief Timothy Malley said that patrols are paying “special attention” to those areas and staying on the lookout for impaired drivers. “We also will have foot patrols on the western part of Detroit Avenue to be visible in the commercial district,” he said. “As with any other night if someone is going out to drink a designated driver is the best way to have a good yet safe time.
