An Akron judge has decided that the bridge bomb plot should be treated as a terrorism attempt, the Associated Press and NewsNet5.com report. That means that Brandon L. Baxter, of Lakewood; Connor C. Stevens, of Berea; and Douglas L. Wright, of Indianapolis could receive stricter sentences than previously thought. The three pleaded guilty in September. A fourth suspect, Anthony Hayne of Cleveland, pleaded guilty in July and agreed to testify against the others if necessary. The four men, along with Joshua S. Stafford, of Cleveland, were arrested after attempting to blow up the state Route 82 bridge in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park on April 30. The men each face three counts stemming from a what federal officials say was a plan to blow up a Brecksville bridge.
The five men arrested in the plot to blow up a bridge in Brecksville have now been indicted by a federal grand jury on Thursday. The self-proclaimed anarchists will each face three counts stemming from a plan hatched over several months to blow up the State Route 82 bridge over the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Brandon Baxter, 20, of Lakewood, Douglas L. Wright, 26, Anthony Hayne, 35, Connor C. Stevens, 20, and Joshua S. Stafford, 23, face charges including one count of attempted use of an explosive. At least three of the men are not strangers to law enforcement agencies in Northeast Ohio.
Several of the men arrested in connection with the suspected plot to blow up a Brecksville bridge have faced criminal charges before, including one juvenile charge of aggravated attempted murder. Douglas L. Wright, 26, Brandon L. Baxter, 20, Anthony Hayne, 35, Connor C. Stevens, 20, and Joshua S. Stafford, 23, are each charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of attempted use of an explosive, said Mike Tobin, public affairs specialist for the U.S. Department of Justice, Northern District of Ohio. Charges against Wright, Baxter and Hayne were made Monday. Charges weren’t made against Stevens and Stafford until Tuesday. None entered pleas Tuesday afternoon. They knew what they were doing, they even were quoted in a tape saying they would be going to Guantanamo if they were caught! Terrorism should be a life sentance!!! They are the same as Timothy McVeigh, only they failed! How many would had died had they not been exposed. They thought about this for a long time.
