Ed FitzGerald Announces Candidacy for Governor

The former Lakewood mayor officially announced his decision Wednesday afternoon, according to our partners at WEWS News Channel 5.

Ed FitzGerald was once the leader of Lakewood, now he hopes to be the leader of Ohio. FitzGerald made his gubenatorial candidacy official with an announcement on Wednesday, according to our partners at WEWS News Channel 5. He will likely square off against current governor and republican candidate John Kasich. FitzGerald, a democrat, is currently the Cuyahoga County Executive, a position he was elected to in 2010. He moved to Lakewood in 1989. After serving on a few city boards and committees while practicing law, he was appointed to Lakewood City Council in January 1999 and has been to more than 300 council meetings since. Suburban Officials Open to County Plan to Share Some Services

County Executive FitzGerald announces effort toward regionalization.

Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald wants to push regionalization forward, with the county making its services available to cities on a contract basis. Last week, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald and researchers from New York University took a closer look at how to improve education in the county. The county executive wants to better define the county’s role in local education and figure out how to make the best use of the available money, said special assistant Justin Bibb. Overall, Bibb said that role is to create the “right conditions and environment” for Cuyahoga County’s districts.  According to a press release from the county executive, the report focuses on the county’s most vulnerable students—those who live and go to school in economically poor areas. Much of the report pertains to steps the Cleveland Metropolitan School District can take to improve. But Bibb pointed out …

Andrea Rocco, who helped launch and enforce the city's initiative to clean up nuisance properties, is leaving to take post as special counsel to the county executive.

The Lakewood official who helped to launch and enforce the city’s initiative to curb nuisance properties is leaving for a part-time job at the county. Andrea Rocco, the assistant to the mayor, will serve as special counsel to former mayor and current county executive Ed FitzGerald. Her last day with Lakewood is this Friday. “I am excited to work with Ed FitzGerald and to contribute the success he’s had so far,” said Rocco. “I am looking forward to working with the county."  She is the third Lakewood employee to leave the city administration to work for county since FitzGerald took the post in January.
