Clifton Park Legal Dispute Intensifies With Clifton Club

Judge rules that the lawsuit should include all 224 reisdents in the Clifton Park neighborhood, since the dispute centers around who has rights to the land.

A legal dispute between Clifton Park residetns and the Clifton Club over the rights to the land — more specifically, the beach — just got a lot more complicated.  Last week, a Cuyahoga County judge decided that the lawsuit — filed last year by four residents — should include all 224 homeowners, since the dispute centers around who has rights to the property. The complainants argue that that club’s membership has crowded the once-quiet lakefront beach at the mouth of the Rocky River.  Clifton Park residents also have rights to the beach. Dennis Butler, a Clifton Park resident who’s siding with the four original complainants, said the lawsuit seeks to clear up who owns the land trust. From there, he said, beach access won’t be an issue. “It’…

Ian, I've agreed with you in the past about some things but come on now. Chicago is a war zone. You can't begin to put these minor disagreements into anything near to what happens there.   more ›

Clifton Park Residents in Legal Feud With Clifton Club Over Beach Use

Residents want to reduce the number of people using the private beach. Case lands in Cuyahoga County Probate Court.

A dispute over a private beach between the Clifton Club and the nearby Clifton Park residents — who are also members — has found its way into a Cuyahoga County court. Four residents, who recently filed a complaint in Cuyahoga County Probate Court, argue that that club’s membership of 230 has crowded the once-quiet lakefront beach at the mouth of the Rocky River.  The Plain Dealer reported Monday that the four plaintiffs are seeking to close the beach to the dues-paying members of the club. They’re asking for a declaratory judgment from probate court Judge Anthony Russo. According to the Plain Dealer story, resident Dennis Butler — also an attorney advising the complainants — said legal action was necessary to protect the rights of property…

I remember seeing the designs plans for a public beach at St Augustines..what a wonderful asset to the city of Lakewood. Of course there will be complaints, parking, etc... but I really believe the positives would outweigh the negatives. How about Lakewood resident parking passes for the park, shuttle bus from the Belle garage to the beach......it's rarely used on the weekends. I'm sure the …   more ›

Taste of Lakewood: New Site, More Vendors

Event moves to Screw Factory after years at Clifton Club.

The ninth annual Taste of Lakewood will be bringing back to the neighborhood the irresistible combination of art and food for another round of good eats and visual treats on June 3. But this time around, the Taste of Lakewood will be in a new location. The event will be held at the Lake Erie Building, Templar Industrial Park, also known as the Screw Factory, after being held at the Clifton Club for its first eight years. “It’s a larger venue. Instead of limiting ourselves to 22 restaurants, we’re going to have 28. We will be able to sell more tickets. We’re partnering with the Screw Factory artists as well, and they’ll have their studios open,” Val Mechenbier, of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, said. The Taste of Lakewood runs from 4 to …

Taste of Lakewood Event Set for June 5

Organizers say tickets are selling out fast.

When it comes to food, people in Lakewood mean business. Around ever corner there is a popular restaurant. Some are featured in “best of” lists in area publications, others are not as well known. But on June 5, many of those Lakewood establishments will be under one roof for the eighth-annual Taste of Lakewood — 22 restaurants to be exact. The event, hosted by the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, will take place at the Clifton Club from 4 to 7 p.m. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Patty Ryan said the Clifton Club is a cozy venue, but that means only 450 people can attend. Tickets are $30, but they are expected to quickly sell out. There will be favorites such as Angelo's Pizza, Melt Bar & Grilled and the Root Café; along with some …
