Former St. Edward Star Signed by Cleveland Browns

Justin Staples was picked up as an undrafted free agent over the weekend.

Justin Staples used to play under the lights in Lakewood, only miles away from Cleveland Browns stadium. Now the St. Edward grad might suit up for the orange and brown. Staples, 23, was one of many players signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent over the weekend, according to The Plain Dealer. He played three seasons at the University of Illinois as a defensive end. Last season he had 16 tackles, one sack and two pass breakups. In his senior season as St. Edward, Staples had 92 tackles, seven sacks, one interception, 11 pass break-ups, six forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles. He was in the Top 20 of recruits from Ohio by Rivals.com.

Browns Fans: Are You Cheering Against the Ravens in the Super Bowl?

The Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers will battle it out for the Super Bowl on Sunday.

If you're a Cleveland Browns fan, you know that it's really going to be the "once-upon-a-time" Browns that will take the field against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The Baltimore Ravens play in Super Bowl 47 on Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m on CBS (Channel 19-WOIO) It's the Ravens second Super Bowl appearance since 1996, when the late Art Modell moved the Browns from Cleveland to Baltimore. In that same span, Browns fans have suffered through years without football and a consistently lousy football team that boasts only one playoff appearance, ending in a heart-breaking loss to Pittsburgh. With all that said, who are you rooting for in the Super Bowl? Are there any Browns fans that will be rooting for the Ravens? Tell us why in the comments. Or …

Is Rob Chudzinski The Right Hire for the Cleveland Browns?

The Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator is now the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Many Cleveland Browns fans were left scratching their heads Thursday night as the team announced the hiring of Rob Chudzinski as head coach. Chudzinksi was the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers for the past two years and was an assistant coach with the Browns twice with stints in 2004 and 2007, according to ESPN.com. With Chudzinkski as the new head coach, sources say he will bring former San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner with him as the offensive coordinator, The Plain Dealer reports. Turner was fired by the Chargers after the season ended. This is a dream job for the new coach, who grew up a die-hard Browns fan in Toledo and followed the team as a kid. Many fans are wondering what happened to the big names owner …

The Next Cleveland Browns Coach Should be Herman Boone

Instead of being logical, I'm tapping into Hollywood to choose the next Browns head coach.

Nearly a week-and-a-half after the Cleveland Browns showed head coach Pat Shurmer the door, his desk in Berea is still vacant. I've analyzed the first round of coaching interviews like Chip Kelly and even added my two cents on the second wave. Now we're talking about coaches from the Canadian Football League and it doesn't seem as if a hire is in sight. So, like many in our society, I look to Hollywood for the solution to my problems. Mr. Haslem, if you're reading this, you might learn a thing or two about what it takes to coach in extreme circumstances. And as you've already seen, trying to win in Cleveland is considered such. If there ever was a man to whip the youthful, boyish roster of the Cleveland Browns into shape, it would be Coach…

Bruce Arians? Ken Whisenhunt? Cleveland Browns Coaching Search Revamped

With Chip Kelly off the board, where will Jimmy Haslam and Joe Banner go next?

Around this time last week, I wasn't very high on Chip Kelly becoming the Cleveland Browns next head coach. Yet somehow I spent too many moments of my weekend checking Twitter and ESPN to see if Kelly chose mashed or baked potatoes for his steak dinners with the Browns and Philadelphia Eagles. Finally, on Sunday The Plain Dealer reported the Browns "walked away" because Kelly wouldn't likely leave the University of Oregon. Sure. I believe it. Just like the nerd in high school who told everyone he just didn't think taking the homecoming queen to prom wasn't going to work out. She didn't say no; he just didn't think it was a good idea. No matter what Chip Kelly will stay in Oregon and Cleveland is back to square one. There are many names …

Cribbs Twitter Rant: Justified? You Tell Us

Josh Cribbs used profanity in a Tweet after seeing fans bash the Browns after the 34-12 loss to the Denver Broncos. The Plain Dealer reported that he later deleted the tweet.

Everybody likes to vent and after Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns fans weren't alone in the habit.  The fans were especially critical of Cleveland Browns Wide Receiver Josh Cribbs after a fumble and a penalty.  Cribbs had a few words to share in response on Twitter. The Plain Dealer reported that Cribbs tweeted from his @JoshCribbs16 account,  "I see all the negativity on twitter after I gave my life to this (stuff)," he Tweeted. "So 2 all u who are against me (Expletive) all y'all. I'm still gonna do me!" He later deleted the post, but continued to complain Sunday night:  "Yea I had a moment smh..... wooossssahhh aiiight man I 4got each day there are a new breed of haters out there disguised as fans!" One blogger on …

Cleveland Browns for Sale? What Do You Think of the Rumors?

The team’s owner, Randy Lerner, has said he is in conversations with Jimmy Haslam, who is “interested in making an investment.”

Updated, 2:40 p.m.: Fox 8 News Cleveland reports that Randy Lerner will sell his controlling interest in the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner has confirmed rumors that he is in negotiations with a potential investor, Jimmy Haslam. According to a release on the Browns' website, Haslam is “interested in making an investment in the Cleveland Browns.” Crain’s Cleveland Business reports that it is not clear whether the move would make Haslam a majority or minority owner in the team if it goes through. But Fox 8 reported Friday that team president Mike Holmgrem has confirmed that Lerner is selling controlling interest in the Browns. According to the release from the Browns, Lerner and Haslam plan to keep details of the …

Hi Dave, I have written to deceased Lerner and young Lerner. Both have replied, the elder Lerner called me when I lived in Kentucky because he said my letter was so funny. But I agree with you maybe new money will help give the Browns the edge they need, something should.   more ›

Browns Select Richardson, Weeden in First Round

And Patch had a blast at our draft party at Solon Panini's!

Patch came to Solon Panini's and cheered on the Browns as they drafted two offensive weapons. The Browns took running back Trent Richardson with the third pick -- they traded up from the fourth pick to snag the Alabama star -- and quarterback Brandon Weeden with the 22nd pick. We also signed up new readers for our daily e-mail newsletter, gave away some free appetizers and Panini's gift cards and generally had a good time! We hosted a live chat during the draft -- you can find the transcript here. Thanks to Solon Panini's for hosting our event! Go Browns!
