While the first four suspects have all been found guilty and sentenced, the Joshua Stafford case has been held up because of "psychiatric" issues.
It seems as if the case against the fifth and final suspect in the Brecksville bomb plot is heading to court. His case has been delayed for a psychiatric review. Newsnet5.com reported that Joshua Stafford of Cleveland is scheduled to appear before an Akron federal court judge on Friday. The judge is expected to hear legal briefs on Stafford's "psychiatric" issues. Three of the men involved were sentenced last week.
Brandon L. Baxter, of Lakewood, is appealing the sentence for his part in a failed plot to blow up a bridge in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Associated Press reports. A federal judge gave three of the men involved their sentences Monday.
A federal judge has sentenced three of the men involved in a plot to blow up the state Route 82 bridge in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The following information was provided by the United States District Court Northern District of Ohio: All three men were charged for one count each of attempted use of an explosive, attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction to destroy a highway and conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction. The three men originally pleaded not guilty, but changed their pleas to guilty in September. The representative of the court also said that the men would be under lifetime-supervised release after serving their sentences and the special assessment cost for all three was $300. An Akron judge has decided that the bridge bomb plot should be treated as a terrorism attempt, the Associated Press and NewsNet5.com report. That means that Brandon L. Baxter, of Lakewood; Connor C. Stevens, of Berea; and Douglas L. Wright, of Indianapolis could receive stricter sentences than previously thought. The three pleaded guilty in September. Three men have pleaded guilty for their role in an alleged plot to blow up the state Route 82 bridge in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Brandon L. Baxter, of Lakewood; Connor C. Stevens, of Berea; and Douglas L. Wright, of Indianapolis, have all pleaded guilty to the charges against them in Akron before a federal judge on Wednesday, according to various media reports. Facing life sentences on charges of conspiracy and attempted use of an explosive, they each changed their “not guilty” plea. Sentencing is expected in November. The self-proclaimed anarchists will each face three counts stemming from a plan hatched over several months to blow up the State Route 82 bridge over the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Lakewood native Brandon Baxter expected to plead not guilty next week.
The lawyer for Brandon Baxter, a Lakewood man who is charged with four others of plotting to blow up a Brecksville bridge, said Wednesday his client was coached into participating in the scheme by an FBI informant working the case. Cleveland attorney John Pyle, who took on Baxter’s case this week, said his client would not have — and could not have — gone through with the plot if not for the FBI's involvement.
