56 West Closes, ‘StrEat Burger’ to Open in its Place

The popular 56 West served its last burger on Detroit Avenue, closing its doors earlier this week. But don’t fret; a new restaurant is opening in its place following an extensive renovation. Izzy Schachner and Jay Leitson partners in the popular food truck StrEat Mobile Bistro are opening a brick-and-mortar establishment in the space at 16300 Detroit Avenue. Street Burger is expected to open in April. “We are going to be turning it a new concept,” said Schachner, adding that he’d like to keep a lid on many of the details. “It’s going to be great.” Meanwhile, construction crews have been working all week on the build-out of the new restaurant. Clarification: The owner of 56 West, Don Farone, will not be a partner in the new venture.

56 West was a good idea in the beginning but the food at the Sunday brunch became very tastless and poorly prepared. The manager really didn't care much and resented any criticism. A change in menu would have saved it. We would go in there towards the end and we were the only people in there. There must be a reason for this!.   more ›
