56 West Closes, ‘StrEat Burger’ to Open in its Place

But don’t fret; a new restaurant is opening in its place following an extensive renovation.

The popular 56 West served its last burger on Detroit Avenue, closing its doors earlier this week. But don’t fret; a new restaurant is opening in its place following an extensive renovation. Izzy Schachner and Jay Leitson partners in the popular food truck StrEat Mobile Bistro are opening a brick-and-mortar establishment in the space at 16300 Detroit Avenue. Street Burger is expected to open in April.  “We are going to be turning it a new concept,” said Schachner, adding that he’d like to keep a lid on many of the details. “It’s going to be great.” Meanwhile, construction crews have been working all week on the build-out of the new restaurant. Clarification: The owner of 56 West, Don Farone, will not be a partner in the new venture.

Top shelf restaurant.” - Larry Wilkins “I recently had the BBB blackened, bacon and blue cheese burger. It was juicy, mouth watering and spectacular!” - Karen DeLaney Gerard “Jammy Buggar burgers are great! Even had a waiter at another restaurant recommend them.” - Eileen Ptacek But, in Lakewood — the land of good burgers — Jammy Buggars had some good competition. Starting Monday, the nominations flooded the Lakewood Patch inbox…

My Favorite... Place to Grab a Burger

Tell us where the best place in Lakewood is to grab a burger.

You really can’t beat a big, juicy burger. Fortunately, we’ve got plenty of ‘em to choose from in Lakewood. It seems only fitting that our inaugural "My Favorite" contest would kick off by asking you where to grab the best hamburger (sorry, vegetarians) in town. So here's how it works: We'll list some of the nominations we received last week below. Click on the link (which takes you to our Patch Places directory) and write a review of your favorite burger. If your best burger isn't listed, shoot Lakewood Patch editor Colin McEwen an email to nominate it. Here are the nominees for best burger in Lakewood: Make sure to vote by writing a review by 9 a.m. Friday. McEwen (that’s me) will decide the winner by the number and quality of reviews on…
