Boat Stolen in 2007 Recovered, Returned

Stolen boat is found... next door A resident in the 2100 block of Alger Road reported May 11 seeing his boat — stolen in 2007 — on top of his neighbor’s garage, one block south. The neighbor said the boat was there when he moved in, and doesn’t know who put it there.  Grand theft A vehicle was reported stolen from the 12500 block of Edgewater Drive at around 9:30 a.m. May 11. Criminal damaging Police received a report that a truck parked in the 2100 block of Chesterland Avenue was shot with by BB gun at around 3:30 p.m. May 11. Good Samaritan Two rings found in the women’s restroom at Lakewood Park were turned into Lakewood police on May 11. Disorderly conduct A man at the McDonald’s on Sloane Avenue, who was reported “highly intoxicated” …

DNA Helps Catch Suspected 7-Eleven Armed Robber

A 37-year-old Lakewood man faces aggravated armed robbery charge.

A baseball cap has led to the arrest of a 37-year-old Lakewood man suspected of robbing the 7-Eleven at knifepoint last month. Gregory George, of 1281 Thoreau Avenue, was arrested and charged with aggravated armed robbery after police extracted DNA evidence from hair inside a baseball cap left behind at the Hilliard Road convenient store. Police believe that the 37-year-old threatened the store clerk with a box-cutter knife before fleeing the store in the early morning of April 11.  Police chief Timothy Malley said that George — suspected of carrying the entire cash register out of the store — made off with a “couple hundred dollars.” His parked car was waiting down Olive Avenue. 3-Year-Old Falls From Second-Story Window

The boy was taken to MetroHealth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

A 3-year-boy fell from a second-story window in a double-family home in the 1500 block of Parkwood Avenue on Monday evening. The boy was taken to MetroHealth Hospital with unknown injuries at around 6 p.m. Monday, but one Lakewood firefighter said the boy “looked like he was in good condition.” It’s not known how the child fell out of the window. Lt. Leslie Wilkins of the Lakewood Police Department said that officers are looking into the incident, but added that the preliminary investigation has found that it was “accidental.” “There wasn’t anything negligent,” she said. “The child’s fine.”

Running Down Madison Avenue With a Stolen TV

Theft Police received a report of a man running down Madison Avenue with a flat-screen TV under his arm at around 9 p.m. May 10. Just 20 minutes later, police got a call from a woman who said that her neighbor stole her phone and her TV. Police are investigating. Truck crashes into building A semi-truck struck the Corner Pub building while backing up at around 5 a.m. May 7.  Weapons offense A man was charged with carrying a concealed weapon following a traffic stop in the 12400 block of Detroit Avenue at around 2:15 p.m. May 8. The man took off on foot and officers chased after him, and caught him at the intersection of Detroit and Ridgewood avenues.  Grand theft A woman reported that her Toyota Camry — valued at around $1,500 — was stolen…

There's no shortage of bizarre police calls and charges in Northeast Ohio. We'll gather the zaniest of the region each Sunday in this Best of the Blotter column. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Questioned in the Nude: Twinsburg Police didn't learn much about a stolen-money accusation on May 3, but they were exposed to a naked man. The unexpected showing occurred during officers' second trip to the Warren Parkway residence that day. Police came earlier because a woman was screaming for help outside. Yelling ‘Fire’ in a Movie Theater... the Detroit Theatre

Firefighters get in a couple of training exercises at the Detroit Theatre as demolition crews get ready to tear the structure down to make way for McDonald’s.

If someone screamed fire in the Detroit Theatre on Thursday, that would have been just fine. There were plenty of firefighters around.  As demolition crews prepare to take down the 90-year-old theater to make way for the Golden Arches of McDonald’s, the Lakewood Fire Department was on hand to get some practice. Firefighters practiced a few drills in the vacated structure — as well as on top of the building. “That building served the community for many years, and it’s serving the community one last time, by helping to train firefighters," said Lakewood Fire Chief Scott Gilman. Apple Fight on Olivewood Avenue

Apple fight A resident in the 1500 block of Olivewood Avenue told police that kids were throwing apples at her house at around 4:30 p.m. May 5. The children told police they were having an apple fight, and one of the apples accidently went over the fence. Sex offense A man walked up behind a woman and “grabbed her inappropriately” near the intersection of Mathews and Detroit avenues at around 12:40 a.m. May 6. He then got into a vehicle and drove northbound on Mathews Avenue.  Fight A fight was reported outside of Sullivan’s Pub and Restaurant at around 2:45 a.m. May 6. Man Threatens Tow Truck Driver Over Burger

There's the beef Lakewood police responded to the Rally’s on W. 117th Street in Cleveland for a report of a tow truck driver who was threatened by a man who said he would shoot the driver if he didn’t buy him a burger at around 1:40 a.m. May 3. Police caught up with the man on Detroit Avenue and turned him over to the Cleveland Police Department. Car spray-painted A woman reported that her parked car was spray-painted in the 14500 block of Detroit Avenue at around 6:20 p.m. May 3. The woman told Lakewood Patch that she doesn’t have any enemies and didn’t know who would want to vandalize her property. Nearby video surveillance didn’t turn up any clues. Five Arrested in Alleged Bomb Plot Plead Not Guilty

The preliminary sentencing in the U.S. District Court took place today.

The Plain Dealer reports that the five men arrested in the alleged plot to blow up a bridge in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park pleaded not guilty in the U.S. District Court on Monday. The five men, Brandon L. Baxter, 20, of Lakewood; Anthony Hayne, 35, of Cleveland; Joshua S. Stafford, 23, of Cleveland; Connor C. Stevens, 20, of Berea; and Douglas L. Wright, 26, of Indianapolis, have all been charged with three counts, including the attempted use of an explosive. They remain in custody. Police Catch Up With Counterfeit Suspect

Counterfeit suspect caught Police finally caught up with the woman who escaped arrest for passing a counterfeit $50 bill at the CVS Pharmacy on Clifton Boulevard in April. She came through the drive-thru again at around 11:30 p.m. May 1 and an employee recognized her. Scary noises A resident in the 1600 block of Phelps Avenue told police that a neighbor was making scary noises at around 7 p.m. May 1. The woman called back and said the neighbors making noise left.  Dog bite A dog bit a woman as she was walking in the 1300 block of Edanola Avenue at around 6 a.m. May 2.
