With so many great spots to choose from, it wasn't an easy pick for Lakewood Patch readers.
Sweetwater Landing is the best place in Lakewood to go for outdoor dining. That’s according to Lakewood Patch readers, polled earlier this week. It was one of the closest Readers’ Choice contests that we’ve had. Apparently, it was tough to choose. That's no surprise, given the number of fantastic outdoor dining spots there are in Lakewod. In the end, Sweetwater Landing — with its magnificent views of the Rocky River — came away on top with 22 percent of the vote, narrowly edging out Georgetown and Sullivan's Irish Pub. Next week, our Readers' Choice topic will be the Best Venue to Hear Live Music.

Read the letter and tell us what you love about Cleveland
Chef Michael Symon, owner of Eton Plaza's B-Spot and other area restaurants, showed a little emotion and a lot of Cleveland pride in a touching love letter to Cleveland for The Huffington Post today. Raised in North Olmsted and a graduate of Lakewood's St. Edward High School, he reminisces about places all over the area: I remember when I was young and I would spend my entire weekends with you and my grandfather: heading to the Eastside and staying with my grandparents; taking the rapid Downtown; shopping at the Westside Market with all its fabulous aromas of smoked meats and baked breads. It is here I found my true love for food, for going to the historic Terminal Tower to pick up my Grandma at Higbees and heading back east to cook split …

We want your bird photos, your bird observations. Heck, we'd even like to see your birding videos!
Seriously, my favorite radio station is any public radio station and I often pester the editors with re-enactments of the stories I hear. So when WCPN featured The Cleveland Natural History Museum's Harvey Webster in a show all about birding I was inspired to reach out to you directly. In the program, Webster mentioned the Audubon Society's weekly bird watching events at parks across the region and several great local bird blogs. But I'll bet Lakewood has some undiscovered bird bloggers. And I personally invite you to start your own blog and share your bird photos, observations, heck you can even post a video if you have it. Are you already blogging about birds? You can post your blog on Patch and reach a wider, local audience. …

Take our completely unscientific poll and let us know what you think.
For many of us, taking a vacation doesn't necessarily mean taking a big fancy trip. For some of us, it means just staying put and relaxing. On Monday, we asked where you'd go if you stuck around on your "staycation." Here are some ideas: Catch a show at the Beck Center for the Arts; learn some history at the Lakewood Historical Society; take in the scenery at Lakewood Park; or bowl a game or two at Madison Square Lanes or Mahall's 20 Lanes. So, what do you think? Take our poll and let us know. We'll select a winner at 5 p.m. Friday, May 11 and announce it in a story on Saturday, May 12. Voting results posted in real time shall not be deemed official until Patch has reviewed and confirmed all of the votes. Editor's Note: Colin McEwen's wife…

What do you think about this Service Employees International union president's open letter to GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney?
Dear Mr. Romney: Your welcoming letter to President Obama felt a little sketchy to me. I remember, as I am certain my fellow Ohioans remember, you supporting actions, or in many cases inaction, which would have cost Ohioans their jobs, their homes and their rights. You, Mr. Romney, made it clear that you don't understand how average Ohioans live and support their families. That is why you did not support the auto industry bail out and in fact said "Let Detroit go bankrupt." Unlike you, President Obama understands that the auto industry is the backbone of livable-wage jobs for Ohio's middle class and without those jobs they could not feed their families or pay their mortgages. That is why President Obama bet on the America worker and as…

FBI arrested five men Monday night who officials say had a plan to blow up a bridge in Brecksville.
Five men were arrested by the FBI Monday night on charges they planned to blow up a bridge in Brecksville's portion of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The FBI said in a press release the public was not in danger, and an undercover FBI employee had controlled the explosive devices. In addition, the explosives were inoperable. Arrested were: Brandon L. Baxter, 20, of Lakewood; Anthony Hayne, 35, of Cleveland; Joshua S. Stafford, 23, of Cleveland; Connor C. Stevens, 20, of Berea; and Douglas L. Wright, 26, of Indianapolis. The five men each were charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of attempted use of an explosive, said Mike Tobin, public affairs specialist for the U.S. Department of Justice, Northern District of Ohio. …

As construction wraps up, some skeptical Lakewood residents have said the project turned out better than expected. Take our poll and tell us what you think.
Seven months after the demolition of the St. Paul Lutheran Church that stood in its place, the construction of the $4.5 million CVS Pharmacy is completed. The store is set to officially open its doors to the public on May 27. Some residents — originally skeptical of the project — have told Lakewood Patch that the project turned out better than expected. Different from the national chain’s other pharmacies, the new CVS incorporates some history into the project, including the reuse of the stone-carved building accents at the entrance and sandstone along the curb. Take our poll and let us know if the project turned out better than you thought.

Take our poll and tell us about your family's traditions in the comments
Families around the region are celebrating the start of Passover with a family seder tomorrow night, and we want to know what your favorite Passover tradition is. Mom blogger Kally Rubin Kislowicz shared hers: "My favorite Passover tradition is a song my family sings at the point in the Seder where we talk about the 4 sons. It is a long song, sung in English to the tune of 'Oh My Darling Clementine'. As a preteen I hated it. I felt embarrassed to be singing this random and weird song in front of our guests. But when I left home and spent my first seder away from my family I found myself missing the song terribly - it had grown on me, and in my mind it was as much a part of the matzah and the bitter herbs. "I now have seders with my in-…

You may notice a few changes to how our site looks today – we've done a little 'nip and tuck' to make it more user-friendly. What do you think?
No, you're not losing it! Patch looks different today. We did some changes to the homepage to make it even more user-friendly. And we've moved a couple pieces of furniture. Here's what's different: While the site might look a little different today, we still offer the same robust coverage of everything happening in your community. What do you think of the new redesign? Leave your thoughts in the comments section!
Buy an island? Travel? So many decisions.
So what will you do with your $500 million? Someone will win a record-setting Mega Millions jackpot -- if not on Friday, then an even bigger prize later. It's easy to think of how you'd spend $1 million or so. But that much cash? Wow, so many decisions to make. Would you move to another state? Another country? Or would you stay put in Northeast Ohio? Of course, you'd give a lot away. What charities would get some big bucks? Any vengeance plans, like buying the company you work for and firing the bosses? What luxury items would be the first on your list?

Cleveland and the surrounding area has it all! Moved here in '96 from FL and have never looked back. You never run out of things to do, places to see, and it's beautiful too. Some areas look like Europe or New England -- charming towns with gazebos and commons. There's so much to do and the summers are glorious! Fall too! I love the sun shining on crystal snow and huge snowflakes falling! I've …   more ›
