Lakewood is very proud of its schools, which include brand new elementary and middle schools. The high school is under a multiyear facelift. Two more elementary schools are slated to be rebuilt or renovated. The investment is the first major school building program in Lakewood since 1920. The school district—one of the largest employers in the city—continues to receive excellent ratings on its report cards from the state. And it continues to pass school levies in a state battered by economic uncertainty.
