Wing Crawl a Messy Success in Lakewood

Nearly 800 attend Saturday's Pillars of Lakewood event.

Saturday's in Lakewood was full of action.

Six hours, $15, 44 wings, 11 bars, 1,000 people and one overall winner pretty much sums up the event.

Organized by the Pillars of Lakewood young professionals club, nearly 800 partiers were shuttled — or walked — around the cityto enjoy four wings at each of the 11 locations that spanned from  to .

Some traveled to the event from as far away as Columbus and Toledo.

After attendees sample all the buffalo flavored fare, they cast their votes to help determine the deep-fried winner.

Celebrity judges from local news and radio stations also voted to influence which restaurant would capture the number one spot.

Event organizer Shawn Juris said that an estimated $12,000 was raised.

"This is the first year that we have been profitable and I anticipate the net should be about $5,000," he said, adding that the funds will be used to cover up front costs for future events that will help our members build social, civic and business connections. 

There are a number of plans and activities for the young group, but Juris said he hopes to grow membership.

"There is an endless list of ideas and we've proven that we can raise money and promote events," he said. "Now what we need is the critical mass of members and leaders to execute the plans."

The winner in the category of Best Wings was , which was able to continue to seat regular patrons during the event.
