Nerds Take Over Lakewood's Streets For Nerd Ride

More than 125 cyclists kick off nerd-themed bike ride.

Nearly 150 cyclists descended upon Lakewood on Saturday to kick off the Nerd Ride — organized by Crank Set rides, a group dedicated to spreading cycling and bicycle awareness and raising money for bike racks in the Cleveland area.

The group hosts many themed rides all around Cleveland, the Zombie Ride and Bike Espresso. The rides are similar to Cleveland's Critical Mass, a worldwide biking meet-up on the last Friday of every month.

A $5 donation on themed rides goes to bike racks built by Rustbelt Welding.

As nerds and cyclists congrgated at the waiting for the ride to begin, many mingled with each other. Organizers say the themed rides offer a great way to meet new people from all over the Cleveland area, get some exercise and see the city in a way you just don't see from a window of a moving car.

After the group departed from the Root Café, they walked thir bikes over to for a group photo. They departed for the Happy Dog for a trivia and math contest, then to Ohio City's newest bike shop Joy Machines.
