Lakewood Man Walks Across Ohio For Victims of Sexual Violence

Alex Sheen completes walk for Gina DeJesus, Amanda Berry and Michelle Knight, three women held in captivity for a decade at Ariel Castro's home

Lakewood resident Alex Sheen completed a ten-day, 240-mile walk to raise awareness for victims of sexual assault at the Cleveland home of Ariel Castro Wednesday, according to his social movement's Facebook page.

Sheen promised to take the walk in May after Castro was accused of holding three women in captivity for a decade. The women escaped on Sheen's birthday, "a day of great reflection" for him, he writes on his website.

"You know it doesn't matter how far I walk. It will never be enough. There's nothing I can do to bring back those ten years," he said in a video about the walk, attached to this article. "But you can join me in supporting the victims of sexual violence to show them that there is never enough kindness in this world."

Sheen asked supporters to donate $10 to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network during his walk.

He finished the walk Tuesday, on the eve of the latest court hearing in Ariel Castro's case. Our news partners at WEWS News Channel 5 has video of Sheen's finish, where one victim's mother was waiting for him.

Wednesday, a judge ordered a competency evaluation to determine if Castro is fit to stand trial, The Plain Dealer reports.

Sheen promised to make the walk through his social movement Because I Said I Would, a Facebook page, website and Twitter account that encourages people to follow through with their promises.
