Lakewood Animal Shelter at Full Capacity

Facility has has lots of pets — just like Pekachu — seeking a home.

Nearing full capacity, the Lakewood Animal Shelter could use some help.

The Citizens Committee for the Lakewood Animal Shelter is calling on the community to spread the word about adoption options for all kinds of pets looking for a home.

The organization — along with pets like the adorable Pekachu — would be grateful.

Pekachu has had a rough life so far.

She was brought into the shelter with her four kittens in mid-May. They all went into foster care for a little TLC for a few weeks.

Pekachu has gained weight in foster care and looks like a new kitty. She is spayed, received her initial vaccination, and treated with Revolution. She's shy and needs to be adopted into a loving home and given the compassion that she has shared with her kittens.

Adoption fees are only $35. That includes deworming medicines, initial vaccination, capstar flea pill (seasonal), a collar with identification tag, a cardboard carrier, and initial veterinarian visit with second vaccination from participating local veterinarian.

If you are interested in adopting Pekachu, contact the  at 216-529-5020, and ask about collar No. 136.

Adoption hours are from noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

The shelter is located at 1699 Metropark Dr. in Lakewood (in the Metroparks, just beyond the Lakewood Dog Park). Please visit the website or the blog at for more information.

The organization is asking for the public's help. The Lakewood Animal Shelter is at capacity with cats, and that means homes are needed for all of the animals — and fast. This time of year is especially difficult, because influx is high and cages are limited.

Can you — or someone you know — rescue one of these beauties, or perhaps offer up a foster home? You might just find a lifelong friend.
