Construction Begins on Lakewood’s Second Habitat Home
Habitat for Humanity home at 1549 Lakewood Avenue to be built at the site of a former apartment complex deemed a "nuisance" by the city and demolished in August.
The construction of the has begun.
The foundation of the home is expected to be finished this week. The rafters will be done by the end of next week, said Habitat officials.
“It all depends on weather and volunteers,” said Jared O’Brien, site manager for Habitat.

The home, sitting at the corner of Lakewood Avenue and Franklin Boulevard, will be built at the site of a former apartment complex deemed a “nuisance” by the city and .
Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity will oversee the construction of the four-bedroom, 1600-square-feet home at 1549 Lakewood Avenue — on land originally considered for a new pocket park.

There's already a family ready to move in.
Habitat “House Leader” Don Bain said he hopes to have the home completely finished by the end of the year.
“It’s already almost September,” said Bain.
Meanwhile, construction is wrapping up at the site of the other Habitat home in Lakewood — at 2070 Dowd Avenue — that began earlier this summer.
