Tri-C & Lake Erie Nature & Science Center partner for Astronomy Class

Beginning this semester, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) is partnering with Lake Erie Nature & Science Center (LENSC) for its 14-week astronomy course. The Thursday afternoon class, taught by top-notch Tri-C faculty, will take place at the Schuele Planetarium at LENSC in Bay Village. The three-credit class begins online Sept. 9.

This exciting new course option for students interested in astronomy is a blended learning course, where parts of the lecture and laboratory will be delivered online through recorded lectures, digital simulations and online activities. Class time will utilize the resources at the planetarium and focus on developing problem-solving skills. 

The planetarium will help bring abstract astronomy concepts to life through use of the Spitz Starball and associated functions all viewed in the planetarium dome structure.

Students will learn the answers to their most burning questions about the universe: What do we know of its origin? What are black holes and how do they function? What is Pluto, really, and why is Pluto no longer considered a planet?

Tuition at Tri-C is the lowest in Northeast Ohio for Cuyahoga County residents at $101.25 per credit hour. Students interested in registering for the astronomy course must first apply to the College and take placement tests.
