Crowd of about 50 joins catered affair with a "Legally Blonde" moment or two.

Although it wasn't officially the solstice, one day late is close enough.

The on Thursday launched this summer's “Talk of the Town,” its seventh annual summer party series, with a Summer Solstice theme at Chann and Ed Spellman's lakefront home in Rocky River.

A blazing sun and temperatures near 90 kept some of the roughly 50 guests indoors, but those brave enough to venture outside were treated to a lake breeze and spectacular views of the lake.

Boaters and sea gulls frolicked on the lake as guests chatted and sampled refreshments and hors d'oeuvres prepared by Madd Chef Richard Cicic.

Entertainment included pianist Larry Goodpaster, members of the cast of Legally Blonde the Musical and a bass, drum and flute trio featuring two Spellman sons.

The Spellmans donated the use of their spacious house and catering by Madd Chef for the fundraiser, a $100-per-plate affair. Do the math and the benefit for the Beck Center comes to $5,000.

The center plans several more parties this summer, with themes such as Yankee Doodle Dandy Encore on (you guessed it) July 4 and Jazz it Up at the Georgetown restaurant on Aug. 12. The July 27 event at La Dolce Vita and Yankee Doodle are sold out, and the Georgetown event is filling up fast.
