No Lakewood Criterium This Year

The idea is to "rebuild" the high-speed bike race for 2014.

The Lakewood Criterium, the popular cycling event on the city’s West End, is taking the year off.

According to a press release, the event is skipping the 2013 season in an effort to “rebuild for 2014 and beyond.”

Lakewood Criterium is a high-speed bike race geared specifically to riders that reach speeds of at least 30 mph.

The USA Cycling sanctioned race took place on a one-mile, six-corner course with a start-finish at Detroit Avenue and Riverside Drive.

“The Lakewood Criterium has from its inception been designed to highlight Lakewood and specifically the unique aspects of the West End,” according to the press release. “The event is currently building a larger board of directors in order to help the event grow by significant amounts each year.”
