Lakewood’s Freshmen Football Team Wins Championship

Team caps up off great season with shutout win against Elyria Catholic.

The Lakewood High School freshmen football squad had some huge wins this season, but perhaps none bigger than the team’s recent shutout against Elyria Catholic.

The team clinched the West Shore Conference championship — its first in the conference — with a final 6-3-1 record.

The squad had victories over Avon, Bay Village, Elyria Catholic, Midview, Norwalk and local rival Rocky River.

The boys averaged 30 points per game. And the defense wasn’t bad either.

In a news release, the coaching staff — made up of head coach Tedd Bruening, Mike Ribar, Harry Manos, Chris Bielopetrovich and Sam Giffels — said they are “proud of their players” and they “would like to thank everyone involved for a successful season.”
