Third-string Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer, who was born in Lakewood, will start this Sunday in Minnesota, NFL.com is reporting.

He will replace Brandon Weeden who is out after injuring his thumb against the Ravens last weekend.

Head coach Rob Chudzinski informed Hoyer of his decision Wednesday our media partners at NewsNet5 announced today.

Hoyer was signed to a two-year deal by the Browns in this offseason.

With the Arizona Cardinals in 2012, Hoyer started one game. He was undrafted in 2009 but signed by the New England Patriots, serving as Tom Brady's backup.

The 27-year-old went to Michigan State and St. Ignatius High School.

How do you think Hoyer will do? Is he enough to get the Browns back in the winning column? Tell us in comments.

Unfortunately without an offensive line to protect him and wide receivers to throw to it will probably end up like the first 2 games of the season. I do hope I'm proven wrong though!

a bad quarterback can make even a great offensive line look bad. weeden is a bad QB. I do not know whether he can develop and be a better QB but the fact is that right now he is just plain bad. The only hole on the o-line is Oneil Cousins and he is making everyone else on the line look bad. Brian Hoyer looked good in the preseason, and I suspect that he will open some eyes playing with the first teamers. We gave Weeden a full season , a preseason and the first two games of this season. It may take Hoyer more than 4 quarters to show all he can do, but I believe his production will exceed the guy he is replacing.
