Lakewood Grad Transfers to Play Hoops at Rio Grande

Josh Reagan will continue his basketball career for the Red Storm.

The University of Rio Grande men’s basketball team announced the signing of Lakewood High School grad Josh Reagan for the 2013-14 season.

Reagan, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound power forward, averaged 25 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game at Cuyahoga Community College this year.

He ranked third nationally in scoring and sixth in rebounding among all NJCAA Division II teams.

Reagan is the son of Bill and Gina Reagan of Lakewood.

He spent one season at Delaware Technical Community College, where he averaged 19.1 points and 12.2 rebounds for a team that reached the NJCAA national tournament.

“I didn’t get into the basketball thing early like everybody else. I only played my senior year in high school and the two years of JUCO, so I’m still learning things,” Reagan said. “If you had told me back in high school that I’d have the opportunity to sign here, I definitely wouldn’t have believed you. It all worked out, though.”

Reagan, who will have two years of eligibility, said he’s excited to join the program and already has goals – both immediate and long-term – in mind.

“Coming in as a junior, I’d like to think I could take a leadership role and help the team win the conference,” Reagan said. “Ultimately, I’d like to help the team win the conference and a national championship. Short of that, I just want to make the team better and improve every year and, maybe, see if an opportunity to play overseas after I’m done here comes along.”
