Lakewood Catholic Academy Cross Country Places Top Runners

Lakewood runners take some of the top spots in state competition in Columbus.

Several members of the Cross Country team participated in the Ohio Middle School State Cross Country Championships last weekend.

And a few of them brought home some of the spots in the state.

More then 900 athletes from more than 87 teams from across the state took part in the events, held at Groveport Madison High School just outside of Columbus.

Awards where given to the top 15 individuals an the top 4 teams in each category. Since the event was a non-CYO postseason event, the team adopted the name the "Lake Erie Lighting."

The placers were: Claudia Becker, who placed 14th in the Girls 6th grade and under category; Chris Larsen placed ninth and Liam McGuire placed 14th in the Boys 6th grade and under category; Bina Frost placed ninth in Girls Division 1, 7th and 8th grade; Luke Wagner took first and Tim Trentel placed second in Boys Division 1 7th and 8th grade category — Wagner was also awarded the trophy as the Ohio's Fastest Boy 2011 for his winning time of 10:32 on the 2 mile course.

The 7th and 8th grade boys team placed third in the Division 1 Category. Team members where: Shawn Gaspar, Kyle Prewitt, Patrick McGuire, Patrick Nolan, Douglas Petrick, Jack Romer, Nicholas Snider, Michael Trentel, Tim Trentel and Luke Wagner.
