Former St. Edward Star Signed by Cleveland Browns

Justin Staples was picked up as an undrafted free agent over the weekend.

Justin Staples used to play under the lights in Lakewood, only miles away from Cleveland Browns stadium.

Now the St. Edward grad might suit up for the orange and brown.

Staples, 23, was one of many players signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent over the weekend, according to The Plain Dealer.

He played three seasons at the University of Illinois as a defensive end. Last season he had 16 tackles, one sack and two pass breakups.

In his senior season as St. Edward, Staples had 92 tackles, seven sacks, one interception, 11 pass break-ups, six forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles.

He was in the Top 20 of recruits from Ohio by Rivals.com.
